The Next President of the United States: IV

Just, lol…

You really are Homer Simpson if you believe that.

Sean Davis should try looking at more than the first couple pages of their 990 and probably learn a few thing about, you know, the costs of running an organization…

This should put to bed the argument illegals don’t take jobs from citizens and legal aliens

Imagine that one of us has the goal to run for some high public office. You’d expect to have been spending the last few years studying policy, trying to learn everything you could about both domestic and foreign affairs, talking to people who are currently doing the work, just trying to get a firm grasp on all the issues. I think underneath all the bluster and ego, Trump might actually be motivated by something sincere. He often expresses it in a really socially weird way that I don’t comprehend. He doesn’t think like me. If he were some really likeable charismatic person with integrity who we thought would look to Pence and other advisors, we could feel better about it, but it’s pretty clear to me that he doesn’t have the fundamental intelligence and knowledge base that we’d all expect from a president.

That certainly doesn’t mean that “all the other things” about Hillary don’t matter. Sure they do. In a few days, we’ll all move on from even talking about Trump. For me, her problems and the lack of faith and trust they’ve engendered will remain. I keep thinking of the Animal Farm quote, “Some animals are more equal than others.” I think her run for president is shining a light on this group of political elite for which the rules do not apply. I’m hopeful that this awareness will motivate people to care about that.

Lol, this is actually what I was talking about a few days ago.

Hahaha, gotcha.

I agree that “emails” is a whole lot more complex than that (sidebar: one of the things that I’ve found a little humorous in this election cycle is each side’s effort to make their scandals seem more palatable than the other’s; the Trump campaign would love for you to believe that the worst thing about him is that sometimes he talks about women in demeaning fashion, and forget the other 25 objectionable features listed above; the Clinton campaign would love for everyone to think that “the emails” are her only problem, just a little slipsy-do that she’ll be more careful with once she’s in the White House).

The reason I posted this - besides just finding it funny - is that (with all due respect to the handful of pro-Trump guys here who have been able to express their rationale coherently, with whom I disagree but still respect) I think we’ve started to see the reverse of this; creating the impression that Trump is just a gross person and titty-grabber, but Hillary is the real danger because XYZ. I thought it was important to remind everyone that Trump has a long, long, long, long, long, long list of misdeeds of his own, most of which is actually far more appalling than “grab her by the pussy” and that we probably shouldn’t forget all of those things.

Oh, for sure. It’s why no one seems to ever talk about why people should vote for their preferred candidate. Instead, they talk about why you shouldn’t vote for the other person.

I KNEW that FBI investigation would be vindicated…

I will return to my original position for this-

Elect Trump because it will make for 4 straight years of the best late night talk shows and SNL in history.

Jimmy Kimmell may actually have a shot at being funny!

The human mind is prone to one-sidedness, right? Being able to defend your side and criticize the other is pretty much human nature. Tribal thinking. We’re all good at that. As our political divide deepens, we see that everywhere. In other words, if you’re hoping for some Socratic Dialectics, prepare to be disappointed. Haha.

Seriously, to be able to find things to sincerely praise in the other side is unusual. To be many-sided is really exceptional. Think about some of the more controversial topics we’ve discussed. Many times someone will flat out say, “No, I can’t see that view at all!” All of us struggle with this sometimes, particularly when it’s something we’re very passionate about. If the ability to really see the other side is rare, then it’s even more extraordinary to realize that the truth may lie somewhere in between, or that your opinion and the nonconforming or heretical opinion might share truths, or at least partial truths.

It’s good to hear people who really believe their side argue it passionately, and with intelligence and reason. That’s the only way we can hope to understand, and if we’re lucky be able to see beyond our own bias to the truths that may lie between.

End of Puff’s deep philosophical thoughts. I’m reading about The Enlightenment right now, so this is all rolling around in my head. I was reading about some of this in On Liberty this morning on the treadmill.

Probably the best pro-Trump argument I’ve seen and I’m only about half joking…

That’s about the size of it for me.

For my part the Trump hate is geared around 3 things:

1 – Trump should never have even come CLOSE to winning the nomination. He’s given crazies daylight and poisoned the party well for a long time–the latter half of that is what really kills me. He’s damaging the GoP near permanently the way I see it, it’s not just an election loss (which is bad enough given the absolutely perfect candidate we had to run against this year)

2 – Trump is morally unfit to hold the highest office in the land. I am disgusted with that. They both are, that most certainly doesn’t excuse HRC, who I have long hated, but as I consider myself more conservative than liberal and much more pro-small government it aggravates me more that he took this party.

3 – Borderline conspiracy nutters coming out of the woodwork and spewing all kinds of things that I consider absolutely morally bankrupt in support of him.

Neither of them relate to you as you have a very reasonable way of communicating even though I disagree with your political math.

Much more concisely stated. Pretty much.

Also this. Trump’s big (only?) selling point is that he can close the deal. Negotiate, lead organizations, people, take charge. He even wrote a book about it (ghost wrote). And then this–Hearing from his mouth as well as hardcore supporters how he’s so great, such a great boss and corporate leader and he can’t even BEGIN to create a seriously organized campaign and strategy. The crucible was the campaign, and his promises about picking top talent and knowing who to put in charge and how to run things are so much air.

So well played. I mean, just perfectly played.

If they narrowly take the senate it’s going to bring out the latent soccer hooligan lurking in my Irish DNA. I’ve already been through all the stages of grief with regards to the grifter, but that will make me want to give someone a fat lip.

Not even the slightest offense taken regarding a difference in political math or even posts directly challenging my posts.

Although I am paleo or Christian conservative by designation, I have a more personal reason for my absolute dislike of HRC. I have a brother, daughter, and first cousin that I believe qualify as pathological liars. Two have been in prison twice.

Each is untrustworthy to the point that one can literally not take them at face value, in matters of importance or of the least consequence. Let me re emphasize - lies flow out their mouths, large and small, to the point of seeming to be their only personality trait.

That is what I see in HRC, along with a sinister side that I equate with evil.
Thus my political math.
