The Ideal Grip Width?

CoachMc said that for snatches, the grip should be wide enough so that the bar hangs in front of the pubis bone (sorry if I got it wrong). What about clean grip? I’m curious to know what the reason is.

The people I train with often say that I don’t keep the bar close enough to my (lower) body when I snatch. Maybe one of the reason is that my grip is too wide.

Things like that need playing with, by that I mean try different grip widths, I have 2 training partners who were former internationals, one is 6ft 1 the other 5ft 8; and the shorter one has a wider grip when jerking.
