The Hunt for 1500!

#1

When I threw my hat in the ring for the Raw 405 Bench, I didn't think nothing of it. 405 before always felt like 10,000Lbs because I didn't know how to train. However, with the the great advise from some the guys on the site and 160Lb tension bands, I am highly motivated. I want to start a thread for the race for 1500LBS.

I realize it varies from weight class to weight class. But if 1500 is too much post what you have that is relative to your weight class; It's still motivating in my opinion. Please, post a video of your accomplishments on your way up to 1500; I find it's motivating to see others get the weight that I want so i work harder so I can post my accomplishment.

For example, if you hit 400 on bench, 500 on DL and 500 on squat, post it. It can be 3 separate videos for all I care, just post it so we can see and stay focus and motivated.

Side note, I know there's some out there already busting 1500LB, so your encouragement, advise is always welcome because you been there and done that!

Let the quest begin.

1500 is a great goal, best of luck to everyone who takes this on. I chased that for a couple of years and finally hit it last November with a 1500 even. I was able to hit 1525 in Feb. of '09. Both in the 275 class.

My best advice is to keep breaking PR’s. Forget about everyone else at the meet and just try to walk away with 3 PR’s. Always have a purpose to your training, and don’t let there be any distractions. You control your own destiny.

My next goal will be 1600, but my real focus is on hitting 1654 Raw, which is the elite total for the 275lb class.

395lb Bench
600 Deadlift
Never maxed squat but I repped 505lbs.

1500; I find it strange that people bench weight so close to their other lifts.

I will join this quest for a bigger total , will post vids in a couple of days.

That 405 bench in the other thread was nasty. Deffo lots more there.

I’m gunning for at 702.7kg/1,548lb raw by the year end and circa 1,850lb in single ply gear.

I reckon the following should be doable raw;

Squat: 265/270kg (575lb to 585lb)
Bench: 165kg (365lb)
Deadlift: 285kg (630lb)

Do MAYBE 717kg/1580lb if everything went perfect!

That’s what I’m talking about. I was planning on taking a rest day today, but damn, now I want to go to gym and squat. Anyway, I must comment on of the earlier post concerning bench being close to other weights. That is just a sure sign of being a regular joe blow just trying to impress people; I was one of them. I have been squatting seriously now for a 1 year and I can say that my squat is less then my DL and about 50 pounds more than my bench.

However, on the positive note, those killer bands have really sky rocketed my squats so I should be “normal” within a few months where my squat kills my bench. right now my squats just nudges my bench.

Again, good luck to all!!!

Right now im rocking a 160kg squat, 140kg bench and a 230kg deadlift so I make that 1166lbs at a bw of 190lbs. My squat is totally shit- but I have a knee injury at the moment, likely I need an operation so I have an excuse!

Im what, 354lbs short, I think id have to find 300 of that between squat and pull. Plently of potential on the squat I think.

I’ll throw my totals in as well I’ve only been training towards powerlifting for 3 months but I’ve hit these maxes as of March 30.

Squat 180Kg
Bench 155Kg
Deadlift 250Kg

Dont know what to expect as i’ve never trained for pure strength like this but i’ll keep you posted.

My long term goal right now is a 1500 total.

so far best lifts are
squat: 475 (essentially a good morning, my technique is getting a lot better)
bench: 375 (350 in comp)
DL: 545 (525 in comp)

500/400/600 but the way my squatting is going I think it will be more like 525/400/575 first.

#10

I’m nearly there, my gym lifts (never competed) are roughly;

Bench 180kg ~400lbs
Squat 190kg ~ 420lbs
Deadlift 270kg ~ 600lbs

It should be fairly easy for me to get another 80lbs on my squat - it’s always been a lot weaker than my DL but after a little 5/3/1 it’s improving nicely. My main problem has been maxing far too often (like every week!).

I’m shooting for the stars right now and pushing for a 1500 total raw, in the 181’s.

525, 360, 615 will do it for me.

It will take perfect training with perfect timing and a perfect meet to do it, but what the hell.

My last meet, I went 450, 300, 545. This was in November, I left at least 20# on the monolift, had a token bench due to an AC joint issue, and missed a 570 pull at lockout.

5 weeks to go…

#12

My current total is 580kg/1276lb at 90kg/198lb bodyweight, although those are all gym numbers.

My goal is to eventually total elite in the 90kg/198lb category at a comp with 669kg/1471lb. So I’ve got a bit of a way to go til then, and even more before I reach 1500lb.

#13

Good goal. My best comp total is 1416lbs @ 198

1500 is something I would like to get in the next few years, but as I am moving mainly into equipped lifting it’s not my main goal.

#14

Don’t have the squat vid on youtube but Raw (Belt, sleeves and Wrist wraps)
530 squat (did double 475 high bar and oly stance which I still think is cooler)
365 bench (close grip)
645 Deadlift

=1540

With a paused bench and being beat to hell in a meet I figure that means 1500 flat… maybe less?

However this was all done at 240-250

And now my weight class will be 231 with the new rules so I don’t think there’s any way I’ll be able to hit 1500 @231 by the collegiate Qualifier (Jan 31st)

MAYBE by the actual nationals competition which is April 31st I could hit 1500@231?.. CURSE YOU USAPL!

#15

I just hit the 275 lb class so I’m aiming at 1654 raw to go elite. I put up 1450 (550/325/575) at my last comp. I was in the 242 lb class then. I’m competing in a few weeks for the first time in my new weight class and I’m hoping to total 1600 with 600/400/600.

#16

shooting for 1250+ in may, so if we make it and i can find this thread again, will post.

#17

Awesome thread…I’ll throw my hat in there…

I’ve been training for strength since June 2009…had some set backs in 2010 with a back injury then a broken finger but getting better now and I hope to start back on 531 again in December if I am able to pull with my finger issue…

did my first meet in February and went 500-335-465 for a 1300 total…left plenty on the platform on DL…

Goal for next comp (probably mid March at the SPF Meet at Brute Strength Gym in Norfolk, VA, or first of April at the AAPF meet in Key West) is 550-400-550. Pretty close on squat (may be able to beat it actually), about 25 pounds off bench, and who knows for deadlift, but once my finger is healed I should recover quickly.

I pulled 495 in May of this year:

and hit 475x3 in squats about a month ago, with more in the tank:

Alright, lets get after it!

So it only took a year and a half and to move up a weight class, but I finally got my 1500. I put a write up in the meet thread. http://tnation.T-Nation.com/free_online_forum/sports_body_training_performance_bodybuilding_strength/powerlifting_meets_results_advice_etc?pageNo=7#4179610

mahwah that 600 was funny as hell to watch but the determination was ridiculous crazy #'s my friend.

I tend to seize a little bit when I pull heavy.

I sure as hell didn’t want to give up on it, could have held on to it longer but it wasn’t going anywhere.
