The Best Star Wars Scene Ever

Agree with the gentleman with the SamJ avatar.

Clone wars animated series was something. Doesn’t nail the feel of the movies, but you can say that about most of the prequels anyway.

yoda fights darth sidious. “…palpatine. or should i call you darth sidious?'”

I thought it was when Chewie and Han double teamed the Princess.

No, that was Amadala.

I think the end of Revenge of the Sith was freaking awesome.

Impossible to tell this is, great all the movies are.

I like the scene with the seismic charges. Just because of the awesome sound they make.

Where the hell is Vader for this thread?

Oh wait, it’s Friday night.

Maybe he has a life? Who knew!

PMPM where have you been? Shit just ain’t been right since you been gone.

The lightsabre battles in Episode 3 are unreal, but the best one in terms of “holy shit” factor in my opinion was the 2 on 1 Qui Gon Jin and Obi Wan vs. Darth Maul and his dual sabre. Amazing stuff!

I’m around. Just quieter. I’m in my log (heh heh) mostly daily-ish. I’m here when I have beer. I miss you too.

There’s a scene in Empire Strikes Back when Han Solo is being frozen in carbonite. Vader tells Lando to put Leia and Chewbacca on his shuttle and Lando says that wasn’t part of the deal. Vader menacingly points at Lando and tells him “I’m altering the deal. Pray I don’t alter it further” and Lando looks scared shitless and kind of adjusts his collar, as if he’s been choked out by Vader before and knows what “altering the deal” really means.

And for the record, R2 and C3PO BOTH had their memory wiped clean at the end of Revenge of the Sith. Otherwise they would have both realized who Luke was and what his real relationship to Vader was right away since they were both witnesses to Anakin’s turn to the dark side. But Obi Wan must have recognized the droids the first time he saw them with Luke.

that’s why R2 says he belongs to “Ben” Kenobi in episode 4. come on guys, that’s elementary Star Wars geekery.[/quote]

R2D2 says he belongs to Ben Kenobi because he’s been sent to him by Leia. If not, I’m sure he would have said something like “hey, I used to belong to your dad. What a coincidence. It’s a shame he choked out your mom when he turned into Darth Vader.”

The race in episode 1 was pretty cool. I also kind of like the scene in the beginning of episode 2 when Kenobi and Anakin are chasing the assasin.

You mean this scene:

You guys are all nuts! This is the best scene in the entire Star Wars saga:

Seriously though, before the prequels I would have said the best scene was the “I am your Father” scene. Now, I tend to like the scene from Return of the Jedi where Luke turns himself in to Vader on Endor. The scene just has a little more meaning to me in the context of the entire series. I couldn’t find a good copy of the scene, but here it is in German:

I still think the fight scene between Darth Maul and Qigong/Obi-Wan is the best. Ray Park who plays Darth Maul was a bad ass with his martial arts background, his moves are clean and crisp.

it is interesting to note the variation in lightsaber combat techniques during every fight scene in the movie. The scene with Jinn, Kenobi and Maul is particularly interesting when compared with latter fights if Kenobi. You can see that the young Kenobi fighta a lot like his master (both using Form IV - aka Ataru), and as such use aggressive, chopping movements with athletic bodywork. Maul himself fights in a similar, albeit even more upfront manner, something that is a necessity when using a lightsaber staff due to it being very easily disarmable in a slow combat.

Anyway, if you compare Kenobi’s fighting styles later, you can see that he has much more modest bladework, keeping the saber close to him and allowing the enemy to assault him with blows before making a counter attack (in actual fact after Jinn’s death he changed his fighting style to Soresu (Form III), the most defensive of the forms. Obviously he felt it wasn’t effective considering his master had lost his life while using it).

Anakin Skywalker became a master of Form V, Djem So/Shien, which balances good defensive capabilities with aggresive counter-attacks. In fact, the primary principle of this style is to turn the opponents stregnth back on themselves, parrying an attack and then immediately using the kinetic force of said attack right back against the antagonist. In Episode 3, look at how Anakin fights agains Dooku* and Kenobi. When he fights Kenobi, he is constantly pushing the Jedi backwards.

  • Dooku himself was a master of Form II - Makashi. This is an eloquent, regal style (think fencing but with sabers) where the emphasis is not on brute strength, but discipline, footwork and accuracy. However when fighting against Anakin onboard the Invisible Hand, he was overwhelmed with Anakin’s sheer brutality conveied through Form V, and ended up overpowered and defeated.

What’s cool is that When Vader first became enclosed in his suit, for the first few years he found it very frustrating as he wasn’t able to fight in the same way he had as before. However he gradually changed his fighting style to use the increased strength of his suit, adding elements of other lightsaber Forms into his own personal variation of Form V, until he once again became a force to be reconned with.

Friday night’s are the beer and porn extravaganza!!

I don’t miss you, by the way…

I think the entire end, maybe 30 mins or so of Return of the Jedi is some of the best cinema there is.

Did anyone ever notice how fucking huge that explosion is when they blow up the whatsit building on Endor that provides power to the Death Star shield?
They run like 10 feet away and hide behind a bush, the camera pans out and it’s like a fucking nuke just went off, that always makes me chuckle.

On and the scene with the floating barge and the Sorlak sand pit creature (or whatever it’s called) is also great.

Anything that has guys flying/running from a huge explosion, narrowly escaping the blast, is alright by me!

Question for older guys, when you saw the empire strikes back in the theatre when it came out and you find out vader was lukes father was that a huge shock?

I think the star wars wiki mentions that the father/son thing between Vader and Luke wasn’t written into the story until the second or third draft of Empire. Thinking about it, there really are no hints or clues in A New Hope that point towards the connection–I can’t recall any obvious hints about it in Empire either until the big scene.

That’s another point that drives me crazy about this sort of stuff. I don’t understand why people worry so much about consistency in stuff like this when the stories where ever evolving. Lucas didn’t have the whole 6 part saga planned out from day one, give them a break.
