The Art of the Rope

A thread dedicated to training, pictures, and videos of skipping rope.

If ever there was a good indicator to a fighter’s ability aside from actually fighting it just might be how well they skip.

More to come later today! I’ll leave you fine gentlemen with this one. Clearly she would not make a good fighter.

This one is nuts.

Fedor doesn’t do so well (its towards the end starting at 3:40)

Joe Louis and Rocky Marciano. Rocky skips the rope at 3:37

Why does the ability to jump rope say anything about a fighters capability ?
I understand the fact of conditioning that jumping rope can bring, but I don’t see how someones ability to fight has something to do with that.

The king.

Because being very good at jump rope means that you’re going to have some kind of rythym, you’re going to have excellent hand eye coordination, you’re going to stay on your toes and be quick on your feet, your calves aren’t going to tire out from twisting into your punches… there’s many benefits to it for a fighter.

Yeah I agree with this, the two biggest tools that look great but have little impact on fighting ability is the speed bag/ball and the rope. Moreso the ball than the rope, as the rope can improve your footwork some. But the fact remains the best indication of a fighters ability is - fighting!

Actually - I take that back, the biggest noticeable improvement I made in sparring was around the same time I improved on the rope. Coincidence? Perhaps.

For anyone new to jumping rope here are some basic maneuvers being done by a cute girl. Slow enough you can follow the motions while still doing very good form. Notice how she barely comes off the ground with each skip. (I know she’s not a fighter but for instructions I’d rather look at a cute chick)

The beginning of a porn? Probably!

Was looking for Laila Ali and came across this girl: Tika Hemmingway, fast punches and good skipping (rope starts at 1:07)
