Great experience. Must be nice to be 35.
If I remember correctly it certainly was.
awesome stuff Harry, in the 1st two photos it looks like the judge( dressed in white out in the landing area isn’t even paying attention as you start your spin ( apologize for not knowing the correct terminology). Is there bonus points for hitting him?
Way cool, again. Makes me think I should get out, lift in more meets.
Very Inspiring.
Thanks z-man, competition keeps your training focused.
Beautiful weather, we do need rain though. River running low.

Cooked breakfast at the Tut Fann Veterans home then loaded everyone up and headed downtown for the Memorial Day festivities. Good/Sad time had by all.
Tuesday
Throws
Concentrated on the disc.
Tomorrow will be shot and some Javelin cause I may actually throw the spear in the meet this weekend.
Strong bench work here.
Damn. I used to swim… that’s brutal!
Thanks biker. My swimming is a labor of love, CK. Doing 1500m pretty regularly and going to try and do over 2000m on a regular basis this summer. Have to do some swimming pool time cause I’m going to enter the Senior O swimming again.
Yesterday, Javelin, ugh, I think I throw it for it’s humbling effect.
Today, dogs, me and wife in the river. Not enough real swimming to count.
Tomorrow, meet with brothers about putting new floors in my mom’s house.
Satuday, Birmingham, compete.
Good luck Saturday! You can show us your new metals next week.

So. great meet Saturday, won the shot and disc. Loved the throwing events venue at Southern Birmingham U. Ah, the javelin, where I placed 5th and was happy, too. Actually didn’t mind the placing considering the crew I was throwing against. Couple of national leaders, one past Olympian, 3 of the one’s above me are specialist. I got beat fair and square. My best throw ever would have moved me to 4th. I know all these guys very well, correspond with them, have eaten and drank (a lot) with them, see them at many meets, ignore their numerous shortcomings, ignore the affects of marrying close relatives has had on them, never mentioning how truly effeminate throwing the javelin looks or even the Freudian implications of the design. And what do I get in return? A quickly crafted 5th place medal. This is considered humor in the the spear thrower world.
It was pretty funny when they presented it to me. I started planning my revenge immediately. Next meet this Friday. Love the format, Jumps and Throws only. Looking at throwing all 5 implements.
Congratulations again! Just like fine whiskey, you keep getting better with age.
Congratulations, Harry!
My first thought was, “I wonder if he gets tired of getting 1st place medals”. Then I realized what a stupid question that was.
Good luck on Friday!
Thanks Chicken Little/Little Stick…
Several years ago when I was just a strapping lad in my mid-50’s I had what is possibly one of the most stupid conversations of my life with a co-worker. He opined that I only won my competitions because I was “competing against men in their 50’s.” Informed him that they were all the same age as me to which he replied by sticking to his guns, “Yeah, but it’s easy to beat people in their 50’s”. I just walked away. You can’t fix stupid.
Today, fixing my spaghetti. Implements weigh in starts at 0730 so have to leave at around 0500. Really looking forward to this meet, invitation only with a minimum throw distance required to be invited. Good time.
A strapping lad in my mid-50s . . . Love that!
Nice hardware!
Hitting that point in the season where I can tell I’m getting weaker. With meets every other week it’s hard to really hit the weights and still get the throwing in. 2 More meets to go then back to hitting the weights heavy. Decided we’re not heading back to the Philippines this year until the beginning of Oct so I may try and hit a swim meet or 2.
Way to go Harry! And no, we are not sick of seeing them. You are the very definition of AWESOME!
Happy Father’s Day! Hope it’s a good one.
Happy Father’s Day, Harry!
