Ternida makes history in bodybuilding
FILIPINO muscleman Jerick Ternida made the country proud when he emerged victorious in two highly celebrated US bodybuilding events.
Known as the “Pinoy Schwarzenegger,” Ternida became the first Filipino world champion in bodybuilding after winning the Musclemania-Universe overall title in the 2008 Musclemania World Championship in Miami, Florida.
“Napakaswerte ko na ako ??yung nauna. Its an overwhelming experience. Mawala man ako, I already made history in bodybuilding,” the 37-year old Rizal native said.
Ternida bested 500 participants from 100 countries to capture the overall title plum. After missing the competition last year because of a torn left bicep injury, he made a great comeback to win the middleweight title in the prestigious US bodybuilding competition.
He was also triumphant in the mens unlimited welterweight division of the National Physique Committee Los Angeles Bodybuilding Championships on July 19 in Culver City, California. This victory upped his titles this year to six.
The three-time Musclemania division champion tried bodybuilding when he was 21 years old because he wanted to live a healthy lifestyle. He started joining amateur competitions in 1994 where he emerged first runner-up in the Gerry Geronimos bodybuilding contest. Ternida has won almost every major Philippine bodybuilding competition since then.
Ternida is also preparing for another National Physique Committee competition in December.
Ternida, who owns a gym in Taytay, wants to share his knowledge on bodybuilding among the locals in his place. He will conduct a fitness clinic on August 13 at the Rizal Provincial Jail, before visiting other provinces to promote the virtues of health and bodybuilding.
