Technical Question - Counting Calories

Ok, when I cook a meal for myself, to correctly count the total calories and calories from fat, carbs and protein, is it as simple as adding the sum of calories from fat/protein/carbs from each ingredient?

PS: I know that 1g carb/protein = 3 cal and 1g fat = 9g
