Tailbone Injured while Squatting?

I competed in my first powerlifting competition last Thursdays (10/2/08) and I was a little to eager to start my new routine.

On Tuesday, I believe while still warming up, I felt a kind of pain in my lower back. I stupidly ignored it and put in a few reps with my workout weight but by then the pain was killing me and I felt I had a noodle for a lower back.

The next morning, I could hardly get out of bed. Walking has been a pain in the ass, literally. I thought it may have been a muscle pull at first (my right ass cheek was a bit sore from deadlifts the day before), but now I’m thinking it’s a tailbone injury.

Is it possible to injure your tailbone while squatting? I thought you could only bruise/crack it if you fell on it. Anyone ever experience this?

I googled and it and according to the description one of these guys gave, I’m thinking it may have popped out: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?p=149594731

What do you guys think? I’m reluctant to run to my University health center because they have a bad rep of being idiots and I don’t want them to charge me up like crazy for running tests that don’t need to be run if its simply an “ice and rest” type of deal.

Thanks guys.

Probably a problem at the SI joint, go to the doctor and get referred for an MRI.

Thanks gi2eg.

I googled it and it seems about right… I think http://www.sportsinjuryclinic.net/cybertherapist/back/buttocks/sacroiliac.htm

Do you think going to the doctor is really necessary? Seems like I just need to ice it and take some ibuprofen.

Wellp, guess it’s up to you. But if you don’t, take care of it during your recovery.

Best of luck and try a search on lower back stuff.

Thanks man. I will try to go to the doctor after my exam tomorrow.
