Tabatha Method for Other Muscles

Do you think that the tabata method with its intervals can work also for the other muscle groups like arms, back etc. What results can be expected?

Tabata is meant as a conditioning tool, not a growth tool. If anything, it will give you a nasty burn.

Like 2274 said, Tabata is very specifically designed around compound movements or complexes for a good reason. It’s a total body fat loss and conditioning protocol, not a hypertrophy program. You could never use enough weight to gain strength or mass with it.
It might give you a good pump though. Why don’t you try it with calves or forearms and get back to us???

dont try, UNLESS u want to destroy ur muscles… if u didnt read the tabata article, ill tell u now. the guy who front squat 450lbs puked on 90lbs front squat of tabata…

I know some rock climbers who have used the tabata method to train their backs. Their goal was muscular endurance, not strength or power. They did it with pull downs and rows. I’ve done it with pull ups before. Its not great for hypertrophy or absolute strength training, but its a good conditioning tool and it will get you stronger.

He didn’t puke because his muscles were destroyed. He puked because his anaerobic and aerobic systems weren’t conditioned enough to handle the stress. Doing Tabata bicep curls won’t destroy your biceps, but it would be irrational from a hypertrophy perspective.

Doing pullups Tabata style is great if you’re a rock climber, but mediocre if you’re a bodybuilder.

Thanks for the answers :)Ill try it for a month with biceps curls and push ups and will write back the results. Ive tried this before, but the strange thing is that after 2-3 weeks i started to get ill. It`s like this exercise is influencing the immune system. I think that after a month the organism starts to burn out. Maybe i should take vitamins regulary.

I wouldn’t do it for some small muscle group like that because you’ll fatigue too quickly and use weenies weights. I could see doing something like this occasionally as a means of GPP for the upper body, but I would stick with something like bench press, pulldown, machine row, overhead push jerk/press or similar.

I do tabata style masturbation, does that count? I really feel the burn too, ok its more chafing then burning but i feel it none the less.

That’s useless. It’s an isolation exercise. If you want to make the most out of Tabata, try Tabata sex.

Tabata curls are idiotic.

Tabata jerks/cleans might kill you.

I’ve done tabata front squats at 135. They will make your legs grow.

Man-to-man sex crossed your mind? Haha…

Yes they would. Unlike the back and arms, quads have a lot of slow twitch fibres. They respond well to that kind of training. I’ve done Tabata front squats with 185 before, and they swole.
