Swelling Below Kneecap


Hi Guys,

I switched from doing a 5 x 5 program (still beginner levels) to doing more of a bodybuilding routine 3 day split.

On leg days ive been doing:

Squats 4 x 12 50 - 60 kg
Deadlifts 4 x 12 50 -60kg
Goodmornings 4 x 12 25 - 30kg
calf raises 4 x 12+ 70 - 80kg

I noticed after Squats and deads last two sessions that my left knee was swolen under the knee cap, no pain until i start to prod it and even then its no big deal but fairly swollen.

Is the volume to much considering I used to be squatting 3 x week at about 90kg 5 x 5 and deads 1 x week with about 120kg for 1 x 5 with warm up?

Any idea what the hell is happening?

I'm not a doctor but I've been experiencing similar pain below my kneecap (particularly after lunges or squatting). Just by doing some research on google, it could be a patellar tendon injury (this is a ligament that attaches your patella [kneecap] to your tibia (shinbone).

I'm going in to see my doctor and perhaps an X-Ray/MRI will help. I suggest doing the same.
