Supplementation for Soft Tissue Injury

Do you have a preferred set of supplements you employ with yourself or with your clients when you/they have suffered an injury?

I recently pulled my hamstring, and was prescribed the L-protocol (exercises) for rehabilitation http://www.rcsi.ie/files/facultyofsportsexercise/20140318032443_Br%20J%20Sports%20Med-2013-Askling-9.pdf

Ensuring that the basic materials for rebuilding are there:

  • high protein,
  • gelatin,
  • elevated caloric intake.

Anti-inflammatory dietary inclusions:

  • turmeric (with added pepper),
  • ginger,
  • garlic,
  • Omega-3s/fatty fish,
  • plenty of vegetables.

Also taking hot baths with Epsom salts when I can get a hold of them.

Looking for an added nutritional edge. Glutamine? Would triggering mTor with 5g of leucine at each meal be appropriate?

If the damage is to the muscle tissue, anything that can increase protein synthesis will help. Be weary of overdoing the anti-inflammatory supplements though. Inflammation is part of the muscle repair process. If you bring it down too low you can slow down the damage repair.
