Submission Grappling Tourney in Texas

James Scott Burns was a DPS Officer in East Texas. He attempted to stop a suspect car on traffic, when the offender slammed on his brakes to come to a sudden stop. He exited his car and moved quickly toward the Officer’s patrol vehicle.

Burns didn’t have a chance to remove his seat belt as he stopped his patrol car, just before getting shot multiple times with a shotgun, authorities said. A passer-by later used the trooper’s radio to call for help.

Burns, 39, is survived by a wife and a 5-month-old daughter.

FIGHT FOR HEROES is going to be setting up our second event. It will be held on Satuday June 28, 2008 in Midland Texas at the Midland College P.E. building.

Any help from fighters/gyms and other companies would be greatly appreciated. We will be setting this up in a hurry, so all the support that can be garnered would be great.

This will be a gi and no-gi submission grappling event that will be RANKED. Open to all men, women, and children (which each division will have more of this time around). We also have a new “Servicemen Division” that is designed for Armed forces and Police.

This was a huge success last time and we raised over $2200 for 3 Officers killed in Odessa Texas. Lets get together as a community for something positive.

go to www. myspace. com/fightforheroes for registration info and other updates. Cost of competition will be $30 for 1 division and $10 for each extra class. (spectators fee is donation of whatever you can put in)

This event is now sponsored by the United States Army and will feature an added Modern Army Combatives division for all current and former military as well as for police. This division will feature gi grappling rules with BDU’s and boots.

We are still looking for more businesses to sponsor this event so that all the profit can go to the family of the fallen DPS Trooper.

Sad that this fallen officer was killed by a “fallen” officer.

The guy that shot him was a cop for 8 years in the area I grew up…was a “trustee” when I worked for Sheriff dept. in Longview…and he committed suicide after taking the life of Officer Burns.

Is there a place we can go to just donate if we’re not able to compete?
