Strongman

Can the results of a strongman comp. be used to find out what my weaknesses are? For example I did well in the truck pull and tire flip, but not so well in the overhead events and farmers walk.
Thanks

I need to ask… Are you above avg. in hieght? Do you have a good deadlift?

If you are tall, many times overhead strength is a weakness while DL is good. That just means you need to work overheads harder while dropping some horizontal pressing movements. Overhead supports will help in this regard as well (just be careful).
If your DL is good, if so, do you use wrist straps? It seems your grip is too weak for farmers… yes? If so, you need to work ALL aspects of grip strength… endurance, crushing, etc. Barbell holds for time and weight etc.

Do you have any more specifics?

A good idea if you haven’t done this already is to get real or replicas of the implements you will use in the next comp.

I just re-read my reply and it sounds as if I were asleep while typing… sorry. If you get anything out of my post, let me know.

derek,
Thanks for the post. I am above average for a powerlifter/strongman (6ft 4 in) in height ( and I have a pretty good deadlift), but I find it hard to call my self above average because I have played basketball all my life.
As far as my grip goes, it is a work in progress (I did however go further this year than I did last year in the farmers, with the same weight.) I mainly focus on my supporting grip when I train it. Usually I use my blockbuster for pinch grips and some grippers and 315 holds for time and sledge GPP…that about covers it. I work my grip on my leg days as an extra workout.
