Strongman in Dallas/Plano Area?

Anyone training Strongman in the Dallas area, preferrably North like Plano/Frisco?

There are very few strongman type contests in Texas (like maybe one per year), and I’m curious if that’s because there’s no one around here interested in competing.

I did a pseudo strongman contest in May, and am interested in doing more. If anyone out there is interested, speak up. Let’s get together and make something happen!

I’m interested.
I’m in the area(Allen).

sorry if this is a duplicate
not sure if i posted correctly at first

powerlifters in fort worth.

pabeda - Excellent. I work in Allen, so that works out well.

Anyone else out there doing this today or interested in starting?

Anyone know of anywhere in the area that has any equipment? The only places I’ve heard that have a few implements are Strouds in Euless and Metroflex in Arlington.

If we have enough people and can find a place to train, we could potentially chip in and buy some equipment…

All I’ve found is Stroud’s in the H.E.B area. But I’m interested in the idea. I dont have a truck and my back yard isnt big enough for a good tire and I dont have enough money to buy or a welder to build most of the other implements. However, I live in Lake Worth. N. Dallas might be too far for me to easily come train. But I do like the idea of training strongman, even if I’m too much of a weak man right now. haha

Did you do Texas Strongest Man at the Hilton in Grapevine?
I competed in that. If you did, what’s your name?

I live in Denton. We had a powerlifting gym up here called Martin’s Hardcore Barbell. I only trained there for a couple of months before it closed. I wish someone with some money would come along and reopen it. It had a really nice parking lot coducive to strongman training.

But yeah, if anyone wants to get a strongman facility going in the North DFW area, count me in as a member.

bulletproof - just PMd you.

I’m familier with Denton. Went to UNT about 6 years back. Competed on the powerlifting team. They didn’t have that gym back then. Brickhouse worked out pretty well for us though.

Now I live in Plano and work in Allen. I’m trying to find a decent place to train and some people to train with within a reasonable distance.

There’s a hardcore gym called “Bad Attitude Gym” located in Carrolton. From looking at their webpage they seem to be gear-focus, powerlifting gym.

You might be looking for something a little more strongman oriented though. If you wanna check them out, google up their webpage.

Yeah, I went out to BA gym and trained with those guys a time or two ealier this year. They have a number of elite lifters, a good program and great equipment. Good guys. One of their group hit a 700 bench the other day at the Europa show.

Their focus is all PL, and it was just too far for me to drive from work in Allen each day. By the time I got off work, got out there, trained, and got home it was 10p.

The concept of their gym is perfect though for strongman. Just a basic small warehouse space with room for the necessities, a parking lot with no traffic at night, and no air/heat.

Assuming we don’t find another option, if we could get some people together to fund something like this for strongman training, that would be ideal.

As soon as I hurry up and graduate (probably a year from now), I’ll probably be heading out that way for work.

I’m majoring in Information Technology so I’ll be working somewhere around the Telecom sector in the North Dallas area. I’ll definately be looking for a place train, it would be awesome if we could eventually help to get something going out that way.

Yeah, I’m trying to get something going around here.

I haven’t been able to find any good gyms in this area. The closest gym with a good serious environment is The Gym in Dallas.

Anyone know of anything in the Plano/Frisco/Allen area?

I am in the Plano area as well. Finding a hardcore gym has always been a challenge. Most people want shiny cardio, not sweaty metal.

I’d love to flip some tires! if we could all find some place to get together say once a week, or every other week, while not ideal would be a beginning.

I heard a rumor a few weeks back of someone looking into opening a Temple Gym near Plano. Haven’t heard anything since and the website doesn’t list any locations yet (last I checked).

In the spirit of exploring our existing options, anyone have any relationships with school, high school or community college? Some of them have decent gyms, and they’ll obviously have plenty of grassy areas for training.

Or maybe a YMCA?

Hey guys, I’m the owner of Bad Attitude Gym. If you need any help getting a strongman gym started, let me know how I can help.

There is a group from Stroud’s, Metroflex, and our gym that gets together to do implements on Saturdays. Get in touch with me on the BAG website and I’ll put you in contact with them.

Good Luck!

Hey Sean,

I didn’t know any of you guys trained with implements. it’s too far for me to get out there during the week, but Saturday is probably doable. I’ll e-mail you about that.

I’ve been trying to guage the interest in some strongman training in our area. Strongman competitions are practically non-existant in TX, at least from my research of all the federations, forums, etc - but if we can demonstrate some interest, it may be worthwhile for someone to host a contest.
