Strength Program & Caloric Surplus

I’ve been bulking for a while now, and have recently switched over to a strength-based program from months of higher volume, typical “hypertrophy range” work. My question is, what exactly happens when one eats a caloric surplus while training in the lower rep range, as is the case with this program?

In the past, I’ve typically saved strength cycles for periods when I was either dieting down or eating a maintenance level of calories, with the mindset “If I’m not training with hypertrophy volume, there’s no need for the excess calories.” However, I’m planning on giving this strength program a try while bulking, however, I do not want to feed myself a surplus if it will serve no purpose in adding relatively lean mass.
