Starting Squat with Forward Lean

Hi all,

Is there a problem with starting your squat in a slightly leaned-forward stance? My understanding was that this was fine, as it puts the bar over the midfoot. However, I just watched this video:

At about 4:22-4:30, Duffin mentions how squatting in this stance limits glute involvement. Does anyone know what he means?

Thanks.

He’s saying that if you don’t get full extension of the hips then you’re limiting the glute involvement during the squat.

It’s not so much wrong as it’s not “optimal”. This whole video is about glute training so he’s going to go over the optimal methods.
