Starting Over from Scratch

Hey guys, I’ve always been a long time lurker on these forums so I decided it was about time I did something. I will be posting my training log here from now on. My training will primarily be to increase my athletic ability given the fact I want to play football again hopefully as a walk-on next year as a sophomore.

Back Ground: I have always weight lifted since I was about 13 years old. Lately my focus has shifted towards Olympic lifting but my interest with that has dwindled. From now on, I will be running the Texas method with conditioning work thrown in 3x weekly.

Weight: 165lbs (I want to reach 190ish by February or March)
Diet: I am very strict, I used to log everything I ate before but it became too much of a hassle, so i am going to approach my diet more as a minimalist. Lots of red meat, vegetables, and GOMAD!

My journey is going to start Monday, hopefully it is a success.

Well, today was the first day of Texas Method, and It’s rough.

Squat: 135x5
185x5
225x3
275x2
325x5x5

115x5
135x5x5

Pendlay Row: 135x5

Weighted Pullups: BW 25 x3x10
All in all, it took around 2 hrs
The gallon of milk has been going down pretty smooth

120x8x3

Deadlift:
135x2x1
225x2x1
275x9x1

Everything went up super fast, I was happy with how it went at the gym today. I’m still drinking a gallon of milk a day, and I look a little leaner? Idk

I have been in and out of the doctors the past few days and even went to the emergency room. My throat is swelled up to the point where I couldn’t eat or drink yesterday.
Oh well, I’m still going to the gym in about an hour. I have a goal, and it wont be achieved my sitting at home pitying myself. Wish me luck!

“Volume Day” of Texas Method
Well, workout went really well today!

245x5
295x3
335x5x5<----Really easy

Bench:
95x5
135x5
185x5
205x3
225x5x5<—easy

Pendlay Row:
95x3
135x3
165x2
185x5x5

I tried to do Deadlifts today instead of rows, but I forgot my chalk so my grip gave out on my first set.
I had troubles breathing during squats due to my throat, but I managed.

Another “Recovery Day” Today. I feel like adding a little extra in though, I was thinking along the lines of some heavy Good mornings along with some Glute Ham Raises.

“Recovery Day” of Texas Method
Front Squats:
135x2x3
185x2x2
225x1
245x1
255x3x3

OHP:
95x3

135x2
155x3x3

Goodmornings:
165x5x5

GHR: 5x5

“Speed Day” of Texas Method

Box Squat:
135x3
185x3
225x2
255x2
275x10x2

Bench Press:
95x3
135x2x2
155x2
165x10x3

Deadlift:
135x2
225x2x2
275x2
295x8x1

GHR: 3x10

Everything flew up today, much faster than I had expected.

About to hit the gym in about an hour. Another volume day, which means its another day to exceed what I expect. Depending on how i fee during my warmups for squats, I may bump up the weight more than planned. I’m also going to add in some split squats and some extra “accessory” work at the end today. I dont know whats been in the water, but I’ve been feeling great.

Just got back from the best workout of my life
“Volume Day” of Texas Method

Squat:
135x2x2
185x2
225x2
275x2
335x3
365x5x5<— I may have loaded aggressively, but it was a success

OHP:
45x5
95x3
125x3
145x5x5<— Easy

Snatch Grip Deadlift:
135x5
225x5
250x2
275x5x5

GHR: 1x10
DB RDL: 2x10

Snatch grip deadlifts are quietly a brutal exercise that I need to do more often. I also planned on doing 3x10 of GHR, but some elderly woman snatched the lat pulldown machine while I was setting up, and I didn’t want to kick her off given her age.

“Recovery Day” of Texas Method

Front Squats:
95x5
135x5<—I stopped there. After the set, my hammies tightened up so much that I couldnt walk properly for a solid 15minutes.

Bench Press:
95x5
135x5
175x3
205x3
225x1
245x3x3<—These felt surprisingly easy

Good Mornings:
95x3
135x5
165x3
185x3x3<— Since I didnt do front squats, i did instead to get some posterior chain involvement for the day

GHR:
BW x3x10 <— These are becoming easier also. I need to find a way to add a little weight to these.

Decline Sit ups
BW 10lb plate for 3x10
All in all, a pretty good workout even though my hamstrings became super tight. Now its time to rest and study for the last final of my high school career.

“Speed Day” of Texas Method

Box Squats(below parallel):
135x2x2
185x3

225x2x1
275x1
305x10x1

GHR: 3x10

Hanging Leg Raises:
However many sets it took me to get 100 reps.

A solid training session. After watching and reading some material by Louie Simmons, I really focused on maintaining my speed on all my lifts.
And I weighed myself today after my workout, I was 169.8lbs. In actuality im less considering that i weighed myself after i drank my protein.

“Volume Day” of Texas Method

Squat:
135x2x5
225x2x2
275x2
315x1
345x1
375x5x5 <—These actually weren’t that bad. I felt like on the first set, I could have banged out a solid 8 reps.

Bench Press:
95x2x5
135x5
185x2x2
225x1
235x5x5

Deadlifts:
135x5
225x5
315x3
375x5x3 ← I feel as though my grip strength is lacking so im going to start doing either regular or deficit deadlifts 2x/ week.

Dips:
BWx2xfailure

GHR:
BWx3x10

A really good session today. I’m experiencing beginner gains it looks like. I want more linear progression!
Lets see how long I can keep this up.

I’m pretty impressed with the squats for your weight. Have you gained a lot since starting GOMAD?

And in.

I actually haven’t gained that much. I’m weighing around 168 in the mornings. So a 3lb increase only. Idk what it is, im eating about 3500k-4000k a day at least. I may increase it a little bit. Back when I wanted to bodybuild and was working with natural pro Alberto Nunez, i was eating about the same and actually leaning out while putting on pounds. It seems like I have a metabolism like a hummingbird.

will follow

omg omg omg.
