Star Wars: The Old Republic Cinematic Trailer

I really need to avoid this game. Otherwise I might end up having no life. Plus the only computer I could run it on is the one in my office…

B.

How the fuck did that lil jedi bitch stop a lightsaber with her hand?

SITH FTW

Stoopid Sith Lord forgot to change the batteries.

Yea - looks awesome. I’m signed up for the beta - hope I get in.

Once this comes out I will be shelving WoW in favor of TOR.

This is actually pretty interesting.

Straight up nerd question here, but I loved the Ender’s Game series so I’m going to ask. Are there any good Star Wars sci-fi books that have been written? I would think that some pretty awesome stories could be written utilizing the Star Wars foundation.
There are tons of Star Wars novels. Mostly broken down into various series with one author writing that particular series. Example, the “Republic Commando” series was written by Karen Traviss, and the “Last of the Jedi” series was written by Jude Watson. I’ve always enjoyed reading Karen Traviss’ work. She’s a great sci-fi writer.

The Star Wars comic books are some of the best books out there. Great art and great writing with a cast of mostly alien, crazy looking characters. Another example of how great Star Wars could be if GL would stop meddling with shit.

Everything should have a timeline near the front cover letting you know when the story unfolds in relation to Star Wars IV: A New Hope.
So your top recomendation would be the ones by Traviss?

George Lucas can suck the cocks of the writers of these three comics. The story here is gripping and bad ass. Plus it includes Exar Kun, the greatest Sith Lord ever and an all around mother fuckin bad ass

Exar Kun

Dear Jedi Order:

Times up, Fuck yall, seriously.

Sincerely,

Exar Kun

Any suggestions that aren’t in comic book form? I’m way more of a book person.

In one of the books, Han solo’s son ends up inheriting Leia’s force sensitivity. He becomes a jedi and comes to the realization that there is no ‘light’ or ‘dark’ side at all, there is only the force. It is the person who uses the force that is either good or evil, and thus manipulates the force to their own ends.

The Sith code is one of personal fullfilment - to harness the strengths of your emotions and desires, to use those along with the force and become the greatest that you can. The reason why Sith are always shown as these evil, diabolic bastards with yellow eyes is because, like another poster said, all the movies are done from the Jedi’s perspective. Also, remember Yoda always said that the road down the dark side is a slippery one. When you focus entirely on building yourself up it’s easy to become corrupted… especially when you wield something as powerful as the force.
Traitor is one of my favorite sci fi novels period.

Then they retconned the story line later, made Vergere a Sith and turned Jacen into Darth Caedus. That was when I completely lost faith in the EU, but Star Wars: Legacy gives me hope.

You can also try Shadow Hunter, it decent.

The two Darth Bane books are very good imo.

If you can’t play the game, read The Force Unleashed as well, it’s one of the best stories Star Wars has to offer.

I always thought it would be interesting if the Jedi/Sith rivalry were more ambiguous instead of the Sith being blatantly evil. They’re always the clear cut bag guys, but as real life has taught us, things aren’t always black and white.

the dark side is all about tapping into your emotions right? couldn’t the Sith just be a bunch of dudes who didn’t want to be ruled by a strict code and sworn into celibacy? people who fight for what they believe instead of being detached killing machines like the Jedi?
I think that’s actually how it is. The movies are always from the Jedi’s point of view. I think the Sith actually believe in peace, but peace through force and power.

Jedi: Let’s talk this out
Sith: Fuck that. You, get on that side. You, get on the other side! Don’t make me cut you.

Jedi teach you to let go of emotions and be…what’s the word for it… i guess “Zen”. The Sith teach you to feed into your emotions, draw from that power, and use it to aid you.
The Jedi realized that all conflict is stemmed from emotion. They recognized that those with great power are likely to abuse it if affected by emotion. Those with driven by emotion are more likely to be corrupted and think with their ‘hearts’ more than their minds.

Although a Sith is more powerful in battle because of the energy he can draw from emotion he is also at the same time more vulnerable. Although I perosnally think Yoda could fuck up anyone just by simply winking at them (the force was strong with him).

Obviously not everyone can be like the Jedi yet their presence is needed in a dynamic ‘universe’.

Just on G. Lucas I know some of you here are unhappy about what he did with the series but show the man some respect for crying out loud! The man is a genius who created the greatest sci fiction storyline ever. James Cameron has nothing on Lucas (although I do agree that Lucas should ‘lend’ the rights to SW to someone like Cameron). Hopefully the outcome would be an epic Star Wars film that would make Avatar look like a high school film project.

I keep wondering if there’s any way this game would be done a bit sooner if the developers weren’t always too busy making E3 porn… Been waiting anxiously for this thing for a couple years now.

These were great for any Star Wars fan. I started with the Zahn series (serieses?) – Thrawn Trilogy and the Hand of Thrawn series (next series after the Thrawn Trilogy). He weaved Mara Jade well into that alternate universe.

Doubt it. These films are made by a marketing team, and doesn’t really have anything to do with the game itself.

But yeah, I hope they won’t make us wait too much longer. As soon as they release it, I’m building myself a new PC just so I can run it on max.

3… That’s how it starts
I also quite liked the Han Solo trilogy by A.C.Crispin, the Corellian Trilogy (yeah, I’m a big Han Solo whore) and I, Jedi by Michael Stackpole (parts of that one cover the same stories as KJA’s Jedi Academy trilogy but from a different point of view and it’s a much stronger book IMHO). I’ve read all of those before I was 20, though, so the over-20 me can’t fully vouch for them

Damn, now I feel like getting all the ones I haven’t read. Only about 20-30 of those by now…
