SSRI's and Sexual Side Effects

All,

I have been taking 20 mg of celexa (citalopram) since September 2014, about 4 months now to treat my anxiety. Anxiety and mild depression runs in the family, my father takes prozac for the very same reason I am on Celexa.

Anyways, I’ve been hooking up with this new girl for the past few weeks and have been having issues getting it up and keeping it up. This is my first girl I’ve been with while on the SSRI’s, so I know I am experiencing sexual side effects. I have not been able to bone with her yet due to my side effects. I’m real bummed out and am considering quitting celexa for good or getting myself some viagra or something similar to assist with my mechanical issues (I still wouldn’t come to a finish on viagra, but getting a chub would be nice). I’ve never had ED issues before, I know this is a side from the meds.

What are your recommendations for tapering off this drug and have any of you had similar experiences? How long did it take for your sex drive to come back? Starting today, I’ve been cutting pills in half, effectively lowering my dose to 10 mg daily.

I’ve emailed by GP a similar email to this thread, I’d jus appreciate your feedback and experiences as well.

I had issues while on Lexapro, and went off it for that reason. A psychiatrist – not a GP – will usually be better versed in the side effects and moving you through the various drugs in a way that makes sense.

Tapering off, for me, was always a 2-4 week process that involved working back to the starting doses before going completely off. I would use your doctor’s recommendation, however if you read the liner information, basically “A gradual reduction of the dose rather than abrupt cessation is recommended whenever possible”.

Duration of side effects vary, but things were back to normal in about 2 weeks for me.

Keep it at 20 mg and try one day on, one off. Or just try taking a day off on the day you want to bang.

Once you get the dose right it can actually turn you into a bedroom stud as you can go much longer before climaxing
(Obvs check with Doc… yada yada)

There’s also an alarming amount of people on antidepressants here. Same with TRT.

I was on the same prescription 4 years ago for anxiety. I noticed when I masturbated it would take me a really long time to finish sometimes. When I hooked up with a girl, the first time I couldn’t finish. It’s a little embarrassing. A few months later I ended up slowly getting off the medication and I had no problems cuming after that. I was warned that it was a side effect beforehand.

On a sort of related note, have you noticed you hair has seemed thinner since taking the medication?

Fuckin sux gotta choose anxiety or rock hard boners. Im on lexapro and its a real boner killer even when on test cycles. I cant even jerk off to soft core anymore on lexapro I gotta be watching some hard core shit to nut.
