Squatting After ACL Reconstruct

Heavy knee extensions create high anterior chear forces on the knee. Since it is the job of the ACL to restrain anterior shear forces, this could be bad news for someone who’s undergone ACL surgery. Squats put less stress on the ACL because of co-contraction of the hamstrings, creating shear force in the opposite direction and placing less stress on the ACL.

My son has not been able to squat with much weight as of yet and he is 6 months post op balance and stability are key right now
Also he ended up quiting the baseball team as he was just released april 3rd and played jv while in florida hitting 8 of 10 and when he played varsity after retuning back to Louisville he hit 2 for 3 and made his catches in the outfield… however his playing time was dismal as the reasoning from the coach was he did not feel his knee was good enough… devon was very disappointed … politics or just the we have other kids not coming off an injury to play

He has been responding well with box squats under the direction of an athletic trainer to continue his progress… as he hopes to play football
