Sprint Training Log

20 inches(ish) it varies, its not very good tbh. the 300m time was 41.78s and ive got another competition coming up next weekend on sunday where im doing 60,200 n 400 so it shud be good :stuck_out_tongue:

I would avoid doing the three events at one comp if you are chasing a good time. If you are just doing it for a bit of comp and training effect it should be fine.

Im doing it mainly for training but ill be getting some foundational PBs off to beat for next year because ive never done 200 or 400 before other than in training and never been timed for either. If i can get 41.78 in 300m what should i be aiming for in the 400m, i felt like i had a bit of energy left at the end, at least enough for another 100m? Also hopefully doing 3 events will boost my stamina but one of them is 60m and its not tht tiring. Once i start targeting races with the aim of getting pbs next year ill probably do 2 events max. per tournament…thanks for the advice though

Off 41.78 I’d say go through 300 in 43/44 and try put a 14 on top of it in the last 100 metres. So 57/58. I try for the 38 and 13 but I have trained especially to run very close to my 300pb. Times will be slower indoors.

ok thanks ill just do my best and see what happens, also what do you reckon my 200m time would be around if i do 100m in 12.2 at best but usually 12.5ish, 8.35 60m, 19.7 150m and 41.78 300m :stuck_out_tongue: haha its getting technically, i always predict times.

and since this is the first time ive ever done these events how many seconds dyou reckon i coulod knock off by the end of the summer season next year for 300/400 if i did specialised track and weight training, what should i aim for? is 53.0 unrealistic? I know im asking a lot of questions its just ive discovered a passion for athletics now and im slightly obsessed :stuck_out_tongue:

Taking into account the 300 time I would say you would do well to break 25. Aim for a 25.5 what distance to you plan to compete in at the big comps?

i want to switch between 100,200 n 400m but i havent decided what to focus on the most. Probably 200 and 400 more as i enjoy these more and think getting PBs is a lot easier and progress is easier to keep track of.

Aiming for 53.0… That was the first 400 I ever ran and in comp I ran a 300 in 39.3 in freezing cold weather. Thats a guide line to what you need. You aren’t to far away from it. I checked your profile and you are fairly light so if you do stuff like 250’s and 300’s in training your 400 time should come down.

I got my 200m timed when i was doing the 300m by hand and it came out as a 26.3 but i didnt feel like i was sprinting at all, it was more of a fast jog. I really need to work on my stamina though cause this time would mean my last 100m was 15.5 :S

Ok thanks, ill try this cause atm i havent really done any sprint endurance at all other than a few hand timed 400s. Yeh, i think we’re of a similar weight.

I ran track in hs my 100PR was 11.1 (sad that i still remember) but I made my biggest strides after meeting with my new coach who used to make us do uphill sprints. Find a hill or mountain thats like 45-60 degree angle and just run up and jog down emphasizing the eccentric force on your posterior chain… DID WONDERS FOR MY TIME! do it once or twice a week. I usually did one after my leg workouts which just killed them… let me know how it goes…

It does sound like your endurance is a bit of a problem. You are lucky you have the 12.2 speed. It would be worse if you had great endurance but no speed. Easier to work on endurance than speed I think.

Yeah speed takes a while to progress but endurance can come depending on how mcuh work i put in, ill still lift weights to imrpove my explosive power and ill try hill running to improve my stride length. What was your time at before you lengthened your stride?

I agree hill training can do wonders in the sprints but be careful. Its too frosty to do hills at the moment. Don’t know what it is like in your area.

Would doing a fairly fast speed on a treadmill on an incline for burst of say 60 seconds ahve the same affect on my sprinting? and it is frosty and i generally hate doing sprint work in the cold all my joints start aching if i dont take at least 20 mins to warm up properly and i dont have enough time as its dark from 5 onwards :S

Are you going to be at any of the saleharriers sportcity indoor opens over the next few months btw?

Will possibly be doing some of those opens. Not to sure yet going to see how training goes. Would be looking for a 23.5 indoors and if I am not running around that I will probably train through to summer. I will be at the Trafford opens in the summer because they are my club

Thought so when you mentioned the Trafford Grand Prix, are there no good Welsh-based clubs, trafford is a fair hike from Wales isnt it? Someone at the open i was at today got 33.9 in the 300m btw :S it’s scary how insanely good he was. Were u naturally a fast sprinter when you started ior did u just improve vastly over short periods of time?

Apart from Cardiff. Which is about 5 hours away. Manchester is only 2, I train on with some other guy at the local track though. That 33.9 was probably Richard Buck he is the quickest in the UK indoors. I have only been training since March, when I started out I was around 12.5,was better aerobically. Got level 15 on the bleep test. End of this season I was probably around 11.9 23.3 and 51.0
