Split style

Christian, what advantages/disadvantages does the split style of lifting have versus the squat style?

Which one do you feel has more carryover to athletic performance?

The split style is more natural (it might be why it was the first style used) however the squat style allows one to lift heavier weights.

I like the split style to be worked in as it requires higher motor skills. Furthermore, training occasionally on the split clean and split snatch is a great way of improving one’s jerk and speed on the squat clean and snatch.

The balance factor might be more important in the split style, so if that’s important to you,that may be of some benefit.

For athletic performance, I see both exercises as general or foundational exercises. So I don’t believe that one will lead to more results than the other.
