Splice a 2 Speaker Home Stereo into 4?

I have a decent Sony bookshelf stereo for the basement gym. It has 2 detched shelf speakers and a seperate floor subwoofer.

I have a cheap KOSS 5.1 stereo laying in a box somewhere in the basement.

Is it possible to splice or attach the KOSS speaker wires to the Sony speaker wires, so it will play 4 speakers instead of just 2?

It will, but 2 problems. One no guarantee on the sound. Two, you will drop the impedance on the amp which may cause it to over heat. So go for it and see what happens.

Try this page. It is a decent graphic presentation of series and parallel wiring, with a brief explanation of what happens to the impedance.
