Spanish-American War Over!!

"The Spanish-American War has been over for more than 100 years, and now so is the tax imposed in 1898 to help fund it.

As of Tuesday, all phone companies selling long-distance phone service are legally required to eliminate the 3 percent federal excise tax on long-distance service, which had been established in 1898 as a luxury tax on wealthy Americans who owned telephones."

Government at its finest.

What shocks me the most is that this means that a tax was actually temporary.

The Federal Income Tax was supposed to be a temprorary tax to fund WWI.

As soon as “the war to end all wars” is paid off they will do away with income tax and the IRS.

Well, I meant that not only was it supposed to be temporary, it actually ended up being temporary.

But hey, Robin Hood syndrome at work.

What’s worse is the tax was ruled illegal by 5 appeals courts, yet the government continued to collect it!
