Solid food post-workout

How less efficent is eating som high GI food in place of a post-workout drink?
Say white bread instead of dextrose (both have the same GI). In theory the body should not be able to tell the difference, right?

i think being a liquid the shake would be absorbed quicker by the body than solid food would

John Berardi recommends plain yogurt and a high GI carb in his “Lean Eatin’” article.

Granted, he recommends this as your second meal after your post-workout shake, but I would think that you could do this in place of a post-workout shake if you are not using one for some reason. Although, I’d highly recommend the post-workout shake.
