Socrates quote?

“No citizen has the right to be an amateur in the matter of physical training. What a disgrace it is for a person to grow old without ever seeing the beauty and strength of which his body is capable.”

Supposedly Socrates said this. Can anybody confirm this? Regardless of who said it, it’s still a great quote.

Tis true. Socrates is quoted as saying that (only a wee bit different)…“No citizen has a right to be an amateur in the matter of physical training; it is a part of their profession as a citizen to keep themself in good condition. …What a disgrace it is for a (person) to grow old without ever seeing the beauty and strength of which (their) body is capable.”
Socrates was indeed a very wise man. But, still its pretty suprising, huh?–

The question is how diesel was Socrates? I cant recall seeing any pictures of him, considering I read about him all last year. LOL.

Not surprising at all. The Greeks valued athleticism. Here’s another fact: Plato means big-chest. That’s how Plato got his name!

JD, I don’t know how Diesel Socrates was, but all I want to know is how much he benched and what MRP did he use. lol

I’ve never run across that quote, and have to admit that I find it rather astounding that Plato would have written that into the mouth of Socrates when most all of Socratic thought is anti-body, anti-this-world. Also, Socrates was notoriously ugly, fat, and out of shape. If it is indeed among the dialogues I suspect that Plato inserted a bit more of his own thought into Socrates’ persona than usual.

That was the wickest thing ive heard in a while. Thanks for shareing that qoute!!!

What an awesome quote. I am going to print that out and tack it up on my “board of inspiration”. Thanks.
