Snatch-Grip Deadlift - 5 Year PR

I did 3 sets of 3 (3x3) @ 200kg. (440) before taking a few singles. Topped out @ 220kg. (484). Not a ball-buster, but tough enough. Most I’ve done since I hit (I think) 235kg. (517) around 5 years ago. Probably have a few more kgs. in me (without the triples before hand). In any event, pretty good lift for me. I’m around 15 pounds lighter (I’m @ 217 today) than I was back then and haven’t been training exceptionally heavy, as I was in those days. I think I’ll take a run at 230 (506) sometime in the next month or so.

I used straps on the triples. No straps on the singles. No belt or wraps.

Dude that is Huge

Ok let me say that again… HUGE.
nice work.

Ive read this a couple times. I couldnt believe it. WOW.

Yeah - well, if I was thirty pounds heavier…I probably still couldn’t do it without a 2 year prep.

Nice work! I’m impressed at the sheer grip strength you must have.

Hook grip or thumb over fingers?

Hook grip. No way I could hold that thumbs over. It’s always been my strongest exercise. No idea why. I don’t train it all the time. I’ll drop it for a few months and then go back to it. It seems to drive my lifts to some degree. Did some power cleans last night and they felt very light off the floor, comparatively.

I know two guys who do more than I do, or ever HAVE DONE. One…a LOT more. I’m certain that most powerlifters with deadlifts from 650 up have much stronger snatch-deadlifts, if they do them at all. My best deadlift is only 280 (616), done with straps and an overhand grip (clean-grip).

I agreee…
Hook grips is very good.
for what ever reason, I do almost as well in the snatch grip as I do conventional.

Big hands, Big forearms and longish arms seem to help me.

Im hovering at just over for conventional and just under 405 for snatch weighing about 175-180.

I find they help my power of the floor, and
yes when I do other snatches, powercleans,
they are allot faster/lighter when I train the snatch grip.

Do you do high pulls as well?
either clean or snatch grip… they seem to really be helping me with deadlifts…

and again
WOW

i tried the snatch grip yesterday and it was impossible to hold what i could lift with my legs, so i did the typical alternate grip style of powerlifting. never heard of hook grips. that looks like a great technique to try. thanks for the idea!
