Should I Start Squating Wide Stance?

#1

Hey, i've been lifting weights for 4 years now been having issues with my lower back while squating i do use a inzer belt. About a week ago i had a squat session and i squat pretty narrow and low bar and after my set i had a pretty big pain on my right side lower back i think discs compressed or idk what quite a sharp pain.

Read a bit online and people were saying this could happen if you squat narrow, and that you should go wide, the thing is i'm pretty weak wide stance and was wondering if it would actualy help my lower back or its a waste of time . thanks !

I’m no doctor, but it could be your SI join (sacroiliac), where your spine and hip bone joins. Releasing your hip flexors and other surrounding muscles can help. If you’re rounding your back that could also be another problem. How narrow is your stance anyway?

Have you squatted without a belt and do you think you may rely too much on a belt? It might be helpful to post yourself squatting to see if it is technique related. If you squat without pain when using a wider stance then you won’t be limited by pain when going heavy in the future.

yeah my back is pretty straight i have proper form or close to no ones perfect… haha. And narrow for me would just be shoulder width.

Yeah all my warm up sets i do without a belt and on my light days, only my heavy working sets i do use a belt. But yeah i could try to get a video of me squating.
