Shaving for Competitions

I am about 6 months out from first show and am dragging my ass on shaving down my body.

How long out did you wait until you shaved down?
Is it as much as a pain in the ass as I think its going to be?
Have you noticed the hair growing back in thicker like the old tales suggest?

Hell, I only shave my face when I HAVE to… my whole freaken body now… that’s going to cut into my sleep time…

I’d guess 80-90% of the guys who actually use AAS in here are not competing in BB shows. I know I’ve never done one and from what I know of my close comrades I’d stick to the figure being around 1 out of 6 or less who are contest bodybuilders.

To approach it from a different angle. I know when Im on I do get hairer in general. I have shaved my front torso a few times in my life [not that hairer at all just being metro] and I am much hairer know than say 3 years ago. Now whether thats from cycles or shaving Im not sure; maybe a bit of both.

The time you start shaving out from your show is best based on your skin sensitivity. I shave my upper torso (chest, arms) about EOD throughout the year, but I start with the lower body about the time I start my contest prep (16 weeks before) due to my sensitive skin.

I know guys that can shave dry after a workout and never have an ingrown hair, while I have them terribly when I first start shaving a body part. It gets better with each shaving session for me. I also shave with the grain to prevent ingrown hairs as well.

Goodluck.

I’d also suggest you start shaving as far out as possible to assess your skin’s reaction to shaving. Also keep in mind that sometime the direction you shave will determine whether or not you get ingrown hairs. When I get down to the nether regions, I have to start shaving in the direction the hair grows, if I go against it, I get some nasty red welts.

Also, shaving just before a show, say the day or two days before, can sometimes cause subcutaneous water retention, so you’ll want to keep this in mind, as well. I shave almost every day, alternating between forearms, legs, and chest/stomach, but before a show I get 100% shaved about 3 days out.

Damn I feel weird having this conversation.

Best $40 I ever spent. I used to get ridiculous skin irritation + ingrown hairs using a razor, but this thing never causes any issues like that + doesn’t hurt at all when using it + is quicker to use than a razor

I’m hairy as hell, when I take off my shirt it looks like I’m wearing a sweater. And it’s not from using gear or body shaving, just getting old.

Good question. Although I’m a nattie, I still am a hairy dude. I also get skin reactions from shaving my chest, so I will probably have to start shaving everything else down pretty soon. I’m 30 weeks out.

Looking thick ! Post more often to look like this you must be someone with knowledge.

You should take more photo while you diet, (like stu did) the difference between your avatar and profile pics is insane.

Sorry for the hikack about shaving body lol.

I suggest waxing your chest.

I’m a hairy dude and shaving is really irritable to my skin on my chest.

Everywhere else on your body, you can shave. I’ve competed a few times and this has worked best for me.

when prepping, or during summer, I generally buzz things down, but for my last show started actually shaving everything a few weeks out. The last shave pre-show was a couple of days before as you don’t want your skin being irritated by fake tanners (also start using some type of exfoliation a few weeks out as well). You will have some stubble post contest (it looks a little creepy up close), but you can’t tell when on stage under the lights.
