Now I think you can fathom what America is all about. We love life. We are joyful. We hope others will join us in this approach to living. You stand with those who oppose this worldview when you denounce us. Is this what you SERIOUSLY want to do?[/quote]
I always wondered how much time it’ll take for someone to name a thread after me.
Anyway, your argument is nothing but an unelaborte ignoratio elenchi - A.K.A: Red herring.
(e.g: I should not pay a fine for reckless driving. There are actual dangerous criminals on the street, and the police should be chasing them instead of harassing a decent tax-paying citizen like me.)
No doubt that oligarchical capitalism knocks the pants of Nazism anytime. The fact that we’re having this debate right now (and not shooting at each other) attests to the high regards freedom to blow hot air gets.
That I am even bothering to unveil the many wrongdoings done in your name is proof enough of my faith in the ability of your system to be changed from within. Many MANY Americans share similar concerns and are making their voices heard. I think the recent landslide victory of Democrats in Congress shows that.
Every country is evil on some level, because it puts its own interests over that of Humanity. Sweden sells weapons to conflict zones and Switzerland allows dictators and criminals to launder their ill-gotten riches.
The two places I could think of which are universally (yet stereotypically) accepted as nice and calm states. The question is not IF a state has an evil side, but HOW MUCH damage that evil is causing globally.
The US wins by a large margin here. Heck, when you maintain 737 military bases in over 130 countries, you’re probably up to no good (It’s like a person owning more than a hundred guns and claiming they’re all for defense).
Your argument that I “stand with those who oppose this worldview when you denounce us” is so flawed, it’s laughable. You divide the world in two parts: Those with you and those against you. This is as dangerous and misguided a speech as Ben-Laden’s. Sadly, you’re just echoing your president’s infamously subversive line.
SERIOUSLY, do you think the world is black and white and that whatever the US does is irreproachable? Do you think that being better the Nazis gives you carte blanche to behave as you wish?
The world is not a Leone movie where the big guns get to dictate the rules. It’s a place where people relentlessly fight oppression and strive for a better tomorrow (better don’t necessarily stands for more gadgets or bigger cars). Call me idealist if you must, but allow me to label you as an apologist.
