Score one for the teachers...

Below is a small news blurb from Netscape. Pretty damn funny… and a nice reality check for those parents who believe everything their children tell them.

California’s Pacific Palisades High School and its teachers are being sued by parents who want their children’s failing grades changed to passing grades even though those children were absent 15-30 times during the semester and did not complete enough school work to pass their classes, according to the Paul Harris radio show on KTRS in St. Louis.

So the teachers voted unanimously to record this answering machine message on the school telephone answering system:

"Hello! You have reached the automated answering service of your school. In order to assist you in connecting the right staff member, please listen to all your options before making a selection:

  • To lie about why your child is absent, press 1.
  • To make excuses for why your child did not do his work, press 2.
  • To complain about what we do, press 3.
  • To swear at staff members, press 4.
  • To ask why you didn’t get information that was already enclosed in your newsletter and several flyers mailed to you, press 5.
  • If you want us to raise your child, press 6.
  • If you want to reach out and touch, slap or hit someone, press 7.
  • To request another teacher for the third time this year, press 8.
  • To complain about bus transportation, press 9.
  • To complain about school lunches, press 0.
  • If you realize this is the real world and your child must be accountable and responsible for his/her own behavior, class work, homework, and that it’s not the teachers’ fault for your children’s lack of effort…hang up and have a nice day!"

That’s awesome! Put a smile on my face after another hard day at an inner city school. Although our parents don’t really complain about alot of that stuff. We just get the kids that are unmotivated and blame the teachers for everything that is wrong in their lives. The parents actually support the teachers and wish their kids would want something more than they have themselves.

Really makes you wonder what the hell is going on in our society now does’nt it. My daughter, no matter how much I ground her, hold her accountable for her actions, take away her priveledges still refuses to accept responsibility. It is always someone else fault to her. If she opens her mouth and starts a fight with someone it was their fault because she was just trying to help. She is only 11. She has forged my wifes signature to go on field trips, she has memorized other childrens lunch number and used it a few days later. She has conned so many teachers at the school and a few almost lost their jobs. All this from an 11 year old sixth grader. Funny, they are only allowed to hold them back one time in their school career in CA so if she gets failed one year, they can never fail her again. What the hell is up with that?
