@T3hPwnisher thank you very much for the detailed reply. I’ve gone over it carefully and wanted to address your points.

Regarding the lower back, I haven’t felt any pain, but that may be due to lifting relatively light weights right now. I do feel some pressure, but that has never translated to pain. I can absolutely attest to wanting to get out of that position as quickly as possible. I feel that if I’m stuck down there for anything longer than half a second I’m missing the lift. I see guys grinding out of the bottom position and I think to myself how the hell can they complete the lift going that slow?

Your point about the slingshot absolutely hit the nail on the head. Once I can break out of my starting position at the bottom I feel like I have a ton of momentum coming up. But it reminds me exactly of a slingshot, and my back just sort of uncoils above the knees.

The thing is I can’t imagine doing a slow controlled movement out of the bottom. I feel like I would be so much weaker.

Ill be getting a belt tonight. I’ve had a ton of people suggest one but was always stubborn about getting the proper form down first. What belt would you recommend?

Only one I can personally vouch for is the 13mm Inzer forever lever belt, but it is a great one.

I’m checking for them now. At 5’10" 200lbs with a 33" inch waist, what size should I be going for? I’d imagine it would be either a large or medium.

Are you using your waist measurement or your pants size?

Alright just ordered a black Inzer Forever belt! I went with the 10mm after reading reviews of both, and for my purposes I think 10mm should do just fine. I can’t wait to get it!

10mm inzer lever belt also came in today so I’ll be looking to use it during my sumo pulls tomorrow just to see how it feels.

I was eager to try out my new belt today so as I planned previously I thought I’d get a rare sumo pulling session in today.

My pr of 485 felt difficult but not nearly as bad as I was expecting so instead of going for 5 plates I went directly to 500lbs. Vid is below:

So not quite there yet. Some comments about the belt would be that I definitely don’t know how to use it properly yet. It will definitely take time to get used to it. I also tried conventional and felt that the belt helped me out much more in conventional than sumo, possibly because of back angle. All in all I’m thrilled with the purchase. I’m sure that on a good day I’ve got 500+ in me for sumo, but I won’t be attempting another max like this for at least a few weeks since coan/phillipi is really picking up now.

I have the superpower of viewing things from a side angle. Rounded upper back cost you that lift.

Yea the weight flew off the floor I just wasn’t in a position where I could finish the lift lol. Gonna need to work on fixing my positioning.
