You could argue, therefore, that Russia is looking beyond the possibility that Iran’s Nuclear programme is for war purposes. China will (or does no doubt have a similar view) they are keen to expand their global trade base, particulary into the middle east.

Paradoxically, any war with Iran would have economic detriment to Russia, so surely Russia would support the British and American proposed sanctions ?
Environmentally, Russia and China could both do with replacing fossil fuel (mainly coal) power generators to curb the effects of global warming, Russia seems more interested in helping other countries with their Uranium enrichment though than with their own issues.

Iran poses not threat to Russian interests but also offers short term economic advantages that are enormous.
The Russians don’t fear an Iranian nuke because it if ever used against Russia the Russian will not hesitate to destroy Iran in a flash. The Iranians assume the West will debate and waver on such a response.
IF Russia and China oppose sanctions then the West should revaluate economic ties with both of these countries. Russia would lose much more losing US and EU trade then Iranian. So would China.
