Rice bran?

What exactly is Rice Bran. It is the cereal with the lowest GI.
Is “Puffed Rice” = Rice Bran = the stuff they put together when they make rice cakes?

Rice bran is the husk of the rice grain…the thing that makes brown rice brown, and what they take off of brown rice to make it white. Puffed rice/rice cakes generally have a rather high GI because the fiber matrix has been broken down and all the starch is quickly absorbable. Even if they add rice bran to the puffed rice it won’t be nearly as fibrous or as low GI as a straight rice bran product. Of course, compressed rice bran cereals taste like overcooked twigs…

Its the same as wheat bran, the husk that is removed when they make white rice. Rice Bran is an excellent source of thiamin, niacin, vitamin B-6, iron, phosphorus, magnesium, potassium and fiber. In Japan, rice bran it is used for pickling. You could throw it in with your oatmeal, or pancakes, and muffins etc. Puffed rice is like popcorn, but its rice instead of corn.
