Rest Length

6’ 208lbs. My 1RM in lbs to date: 312 squat, 182 bench, 370 deadlift & 120 press.

BASIC routine:
Squat 5/3/1
FSL 5x5
Chins 5 x max

Bench 5/3/1
FSL 5x5
Dips 5 x max

Power Clean 5x3
Deadlift 5/3/1
SLDL 5x10

Press 5/3/1
FSL 5x5
Curls 5x10

I take around 5 mins before the PR set, 5 min break before FSL sets then I need around 2-3 mins in between FLS sets (especially squat day). Is the objective to get as much rest as possible or is shorter rest times optimal. I feel like I’m taking forever but looking for a little guidance. I train alone in my garage so I have no clue what others do. Cheers.

For your training, don’t ever worry about rest periods. There’s no need to.
While there may be instances where it is beneficial, this is NOT one of them. Especially when you are training for strength and doing the core movements.

“Rest long enough to do the set correctly.” - way too many people are slaves to quantity rather than quality.

Thanks Jim, that was the answer I was hoping for. I feel that if I rush the next set without rest then I risk sloppy form which could lead to a an unnecessary injury. I’m 39 with kids so my goal is to get in, get stronger and get out.
