The repeated effort method states that maximum muscular tension and force occurs when the recruited muscles are in a fatigued state.
But in the final rep or two before failure, there are fewer motor units being recruited (or at least this was my understanding). So then how could maximum tension occur if fewer units are firing?
Additionally, how would max force occur if the type IIB units are not recruited (say, for example, with a load where failure occurs at 8 reps)?
Can someone clear this up?
