Red Wine Suggestions

So I’m going on a picnic date tonight (with sickabs, for all of you who were wondering) and I plan on bringing a bottle of red wine.

Here’s the problem: I know so very little about wine, it’s astounding.

So any suggestions on a decently priced (~$20) bottle of red wine? I’m in Northern California, if that helps with what might be available to me.

Thanks

What kind of red? I’m no expert but I bartended a wine/art gallery for the better part of 6 years and have learned a little bit about cheap wine. Yellow tail, Red bicycle, Sangria Del Toro are all decent cheap wines. What kind of grub are you bringing?

What’s the food going to be? NorCal is wine mecca.

Since you are going out with a 50 cent whore, take the Barefoot Merlot.

Barefoot’s not bad when you’re poor like rrjc, but I think this chick deserves the MD 20/20.

I was in a liquor store the other day, and a woman asked the guy if they had sangria…he directed her to the MD, haha.

for the money, Riunite Lambrusco isn’t bad. Cheap, good flavor, good desert wine. Run you about $5 a bottle.

Or just get some Gallo blush and some roofies, and it’s a date.

LOL at all the serious posts with actual suggestions…can’t you guys read???

My favorite red wine is whiskey.

What, it’s redish…

You pay more than 20$ yer paying for the marketing department.

Nonsense.

You probably don’t want to go with red wine for a picnic date, because it comes with the notorious stained teeth and is known to make you much more tired than a white wine.

For a picnic I would suggest any Pino Grigio, as it pairs nicely with almost any light food choices. Keep an eye out for Toasted Head, it’s widely available, but if you can’t find it, just read the labels and go with your gut. It’s hard to pick a bad Pino.

I’ve been into wine collecting for over four years now, and the best inexpensive red wine I’ve found is the Blackstone Pinot Noir. With a close second being the Blackstone Merlot. I’m in Nor Cal also and they usually have those at my Safeway or Trader Joes for $10 or less. If you cant find either of those, then the Toasted Head Merlot is great also. If your looking for white wine then I would recommend the Kendall Jackson Sauvignon Blanc.

This with some caviar, and you’re good to go

Thanks guys. I ended up getting the Blackstone Merlot.

LOL @ Rockscar. I told you, when you start putting out, I’ll hang out with you.

I was disappointed to see the other day that at the Publix supermarket they not only had no Mad Dog 20/20 but also no Ripple and not even any Thunderbird.

Get a wine aerator. The one I have is called “The Rabbit”. They simulate decanting, and can make a bottle of utterly craptastic wine taste like plain old subpar wine.
