Quieting a Sled?

Sled question…

Does anyone know of a way to quiet a sled down?

I drag on my paved driveway and it obviously makes loud scraping sound. I know this sounds crazy but I would love to do my conditioning work in the mornings, and I do not need to piss off my neighbors…

I was considering some type of sliders on the bottom, something to that effect.

Any help would be appreciated,

do it in the grass? May need to add or reduce weight though.

I remember reading somewhere a guy made a homemade one out of wood and for the bottom of the feet he used a white plastic material, kinda like a really thick cutting board. Looked about an inch thick. My old factory job we used it for covering work tables. Counter sink the holes and it should work. Hopefully it’s not a material exclusive to busineses and home depot sells it cheap.

I might be in the same boat. I’m going to use my own sled tonight for the first time. I finished it lastnight. I have no idea how loud it’a going to be. Hope it stops raining.

Yeah, this is what I was thinking off… Good idea.
It is loud, especially when in a residential area.
thanks for the input

alternatively buy a strip of some kinda of material and lay it down

Tell it to shut up.

I tried that…

That plastic is probably UHMW as seen here: http://www.leevalley.com/wood/page.aspx?c=1&p=32045&cat=1,43455,43831&ap=1

Woodworkers put it on jigs and stuff to reduce friction on parts that need to slide against each other. You would likely have to add more weight to the sled.

I’m sure you could find the same stuff closer to home and cheaper than the example given.

I push mine about 9 or 10 in the am. I haven’t had any neighbor complaints but sure got some funny looks and questions at first. I wear headphones so I don’t hear it but it is loud. Most of them are going to work or whatever. If I were pushing it at 5 or 6 am, I’d put plastic or something on the skids.

Right - Mine would be fasted AM dragging, 6-7am and I am in a residential neighborhood. I think I may try the plastic stuff. Very good ideas here guys, thank you!

Use a tire.

TNT

If you decide to try it on grass, using rugby boots or cleats should mean you don’t have to reduce the weight.

You could also try not giving a shit.

that white plastic stuff sounds like nylon!

The “not giving a shit” plan is not a good one in a residential neighborhood.

depends on the neighborhood. When I finally get my sled I’ll tell my neighbors to fuck themselves. I have to deal with their 3 girls screaming ALL DAY LONG outside. Not to mention one crying every 30 seconds.
