Quad Exercises for Injured Knee/Back?


I have chronic patellar tendinitis and lumbar disc herniation and I would like to know if there is any quad exercise that I can safely do given the mentioned conditions:

I read that the following exercises are to be avoided:

  • leg extension (bad for patellar tendinitis)
  • leg press (bad for hernia)
  • lunges (bad for patellar tendinitis)
  • squats (bad for both)

I guess there are no more alternatives or am I wrong?

I currently do lunges with light weights and squats with an exercise ball for back support and I feel no
major pain but I wonder if in the long run I am worsening my conditions.
