Pushing Past Your Limits

there is plenty of writing about overtraining, proper recooperation time, etc. . . but has any1 given any thought to purposefully pushing past what your body can handle for optimal size gains and the like. how about pushing your body to a point where it is stressed beyond its ability to regenerate in the short-run.

wouldn’t the body eventually adapt to higher workloads and output, and to healing at a quicker pace. wouldn’t in the long-term this mean you would be able to train more frequently, stimulate your body more, and improve your general fitness. i am weightlifting regularly and gettign back into MMA and judo. . . trying to push myself. any ideas/suggetsions/comments?
