Pushing 60 Years Old

Good to see you, Cav!

An hour of squats? Sounds like heaven. An hour of deadlifts? Sounds like hell.

Well, they’re both pretty exhausting. The good point is that by staying about 60% max, I’m not tearing up my body and getting injury. So I feel okay. Form can stay pretty decent. The one thing bothering me about deads is that I’m taking up the lifting platform. But I do it on Saturdays when not many people around.

Um where are you supposed to deadlift then??? I’m glad you are finding your sweet spot with the lifts, but you must be always constantly hungrAY

I meant I’m using the lifting platform for almost an hour. The other way to deadlift is to use one of the squat racks and place rubber mats on the floor, which is how we did it before the platform. This Saturday the lifting was so exhausting I just did 6 sets, but all were 185 lbs so may be getting stronger. Also put on another bit of bodyweight.

Yeah, I get hungry, have to keep munching. Protein shakes are expensive, but couldn’t do without them.

Ha ok yeah now I get you. Sheesh a whole hour, how do you keep count, it’s one of the reasons I don’t think I can do a high rep scheme like that, the squirrels in my head only have so much of an attention span? Yeah the protein shakes help me ALOT too.

I write it all down in a notebook, so I can see how many more I have to do. Otherwise, I know I’ll stop at 6 or so sets.

Been doing a deload week. Was hurting last week, so just playing around in the gym taking it easy. Feeling good, will go back to program tomorrow.

Deload week over, feeling better. Decided to go off the 10x10 and just do a standard pyramid. Was pushing the weights up to where 10 reps of a heavy rep was killing me, but keeping it to one or two sets will work.

Today was squat day.

Squat
45 x 10
135 x 10
165 x 9
185 x 7
175 x 8
155 x 10
taking care to rest enough between sets, they’re feeling better. The 185 felt pretty good.

Leg Curl machine
160 x 6
160 x 6
160 x 7
160 x 7
that’s an increase, pretty good.

Been fussing around with my back. As I’ve mentioned, I have scoliosis which irks me since I can never get my torso exactly straight, so I have to train best as I can. I have been wearing a heel lift in my right shoe when training hoping it will help tilt my spine a little straighter. It’s irritating to feel back there and feel my right erectors hard and swollen but the left seems flat, unless I twist my hips around or some such. Well, it seems that maybe if I wear the lift in my left shoe, that would actually get the muscles working better. The muscles seem to be tightening together, So I tried that in my workouts. Squats went fine on Tues, my feet felt good and planted on the floor, didn’t seem quite as much imbalance as before. Knocked out several reps of 195 without much problem.

Today is bench day.
Bench
45 x 10
95 x 7
115 x 7
130 x 6

Incline bench
45 x 10
75 x 8
110 x 5
110 x 5

BTW, that’s only about 80 lbs or so from the complete weight stack.

Hey hey, I hope this new foot thing works out for your workouts. I guess your body just needs more sleep.

Thanks, Techno.

Had a job interview today, so wore my brand new shirt. Got it at a men’s shop last month. They measured me all over and got just the right size - I thought. Tried buttoning the collar for the tie, and was too tight. So I found my old clasp thingie which extends a collar by half an inch. Put it on, but was still too tight. So, no tie. Always wanted a thick neck, guess I got one.
