Protein Shakes, Warm or Cold Water?

Hello,

I’ve noticed that my protein drinks mix better in warm to hot water however the product lable actualy says ‘mix with cold water’ Any idea why??

A lot of solids and gasses have higher dissolve rates as the temperature of the water increases. Basically the reaction is stronger at higher temps. That said, it is possible that cold water is recommended because you don’t want the reaction to be as complete; rather you just want the solid to be suspended in the liquid (floating around). Perhaps it affects the nutrional value of the mix. More importantly, warm water shakes taste like crap.

High quality whey is processed with as little heat as possible. I suspect the recommendation to use cold water is to prevent any denaturing of the protein. Probably warm is okay, just not hot.
