Powerlifting Meets and Drug Testing

This might should be in the other section but I figured the guys who would know would be here. I know the detection times what I have used but I was wondering how the drug-free policy in most AM powerlifting meets works.

I will not be setting any records lifting in 198s with

Squat- 500
DL- 430
Bench- 300

these are in the gym since I have been in a Powerlifting meet since High School.

How often are lifters drug-tested?

Thanks for any input.

I guess I should of asked about untested Fed? or if all AM PL meets are drug-free?

Thanks for input. I will be both looking into untested fed and losing some weight.

And too clariy what I was critized about below I did not state I was planning to compete in DRUG-FREE Fed. I was looking into this so I did not fuck up because one of my friends was trying to get me to lift in a meet that is coming up next month. I do not know who is putting on the meet and was trying to avoid cheating. But I am glad to see you guys are so passionate. Thanks to the people who pointed me in the right direction.

How about, if you use, lift in an untested fed. If you are using and lifting in a drug free fed you are a piss ant cheater.

That?s fine if you want to use, it?s your body, but competing against drug free guys in a drug free fed would make you pond scum in my book.

I honestly don’t have anything against steriods. If you want to use, just be smart about it and do your research.

However, the reason I compete in a drug tested fed is so that I can compete on a level playing field. Obviously some people will cheat, and only a small fraction of those will be caught. So here’s my .02. Either find a federation that doesn’t drug test, or don’t compete until you feel you are strong enough to do so without drugs.

The policy for drug free powerlifting federations is really simple: all competitors are expected to be drug free. And they test (everyone/randomly/record holders…depending) to make sure of this.

I personally think steroids are awesome and that anyone should be able to use them if they have the knowledge to do so safely.

That said, competing as a “drug free” lifter after doing a cycle makes you a lying sack of shit.

There are plenty of UNTESTED federations for lifters that do use AAS. Find one and sign up for a meet. I realize that the thought of competing against the people allowed to take the same drugs you used in an untested meet can be very scary, especially with numbers like that. It’ll be ok. Everyone starts somewhere, and its possible that one day, you’ll actually be on the same strength level of other enhanced 198s so you won’t feel that you need to cheat and compete against natural lifters to make your mediocre numbers seem less embarrassing.

While I agree that there are moral problems with competing in a drug-tested meet after using AAS, I’d like to point out a discrepancy I see in powerlifters:

Many of the heroes of powerlifting’s past competed in drug tested meets, and also used AAS. Many of them are on record admiting what they were getting away with. There was an interview with Ed Coan here on T-Nation years ago where he talked about getting busted in the IPF and kicked out.

So, BartBurnt is vilified, called a lying sack of shit, etc. Yet Ed Coan is a hero. Can anybody explain this discrepancy to me?

Ed Coan didn?t come on the boards asking how to get away with cheating.

I think using gear in a tested fed is unethical. If you’re okay with that, then go nuts. It’s only something like 10% that get tested, so you have a 90% chance of winning the lottery and successfully cheating.

If you want to use AAS then pick the appropriate fed.

What if I wore a multiply suit in a single ply fed, but changed the logo and got away with it? What if I wore a pair of briefs under my singlet in a raw fed?

There are federations to suit everyone, just pick the appropriate one and compete there.

If you’re really using and not just trolling, then those numbers suck. Especially at your weight. I could out lift you clean and at 181.

He doesn’t say if he means equipped or not. But a 430 DL makes me wonder about the depth of his 500 squat.

If Ed had posted; asking what we thought about him lifting in tested meets when he was not AAS free; we would have told him the same thing…Legend or not!!

I don’t see a problem with juiced up lifters lifting wherever the hell they want to.

However, why would you want to lift in a fed where you are drug tested?

The fed has openly stated to the effect that it does not want you to come to their little party. It opposes your lifestyle and thinks you are a rotten fuck for how you chose to manage your own endocrine systme.

If you are “caught”- whether or not you actually, knowingly took anything that made a rat’s ass worth of difference- the fed will put your name out there on it’s website as “this guy takes illegal drugs”.

Hardly seems worth it.

With all do respect for you being a strong and experienced lifter, fuck off.

Where I live they are a schedule III controlled substance. I’ll be damned if you think natural lifters shouldn’t have there own place and should be at a distinct disadvantage because they refuse to run a large legal risk.

lifting in an tested fed is based on the honor system, under the different divisions in mine it specifies how many years you should have been off, ex: open means you have been off for 5 years, pure means you have never done them. they realize that the entire goal is to get stronger so they assume a lot of people have done them, i wouldn’t go as far to say you are a rotten fuck, even in the ipf (hardcore about testing) you just get suspended for a given amount of time, pretty much just a slap on the wrist. in the last meet the ipf popped a bunch of lifters and most people were surprised they didn’t pop more. go to powerliftingwatch.com and do a fed comparison and find out which one suits you.

Dude posts looking for info on how to avoid drug tests, while putting up numbers that wouldn’t even place him mid table in a decent 198 drug free field.

Why are people giving this the time of day??

FWIW, if you lift in a drug tested fed, you’d want to be drug free.

It doesn’t matter if you’re not setting records OP, you’re an asshole.

Here’s how the USAPL does it.

http://www.thepress.org/drugtesting/slideshow.html

Note the criteria for who can be tested: set a record, win best lifter, have a substantial increase in performance or just looking like your on or associating with known users. It’s not names drawn out of a hat, it’s really up to the meet director. When they say random, they are saying that the method of choosing who is tested need not follow any specific pattern.

But with that aside, if you want to use, that’s up you and I’ve got no problem with that but go compete against other’s who do the same.

x2.

I dont lift in NASA for a reason …

Lift in the right fed.

And get strong first and save the drugs for when you REALLY need them
