Powerlifter's Cancer Recovery

See, take the cell phone out of their hands and life would be good. I am big on gym manners. I normally spend half my time putting weights back where they belong.

You are not alone in putting back weights. An additional exercise.

Was planning on doing the Dan John deadlift challenge today with a PR weight. My oldest son in law said he did 315 for 60 reps in 23 minutes.
360 x 21 got fairly intense burning pain on the last rep. It came from the front of the right hip. It burned like a muscle injury but stemmed from the joint. When it passed I tried another rep and felt it as soon as the bar left the ground.

Back at the Cancer Institute today. Six month follow up checking thyroid. Used to be a regular here. Felt like Norm walking into Cheers. Now I am a stranger here.

Hope that hip isn’t serious. That deadlift challenge looks tough!

I had thyroid cancer as well. If that is why you are getting your thyroid checkup. They caught mine really early. I was able to get a part of my thyroid removed. Luckily no chemo required.

Still go back and get blood test to make sure it doesn’t come back.

I’m sure it’s not serious. I didn’t have any cancer in the thyroid. The radiation damaged my thyroid, saliva glands, vocal cord and sinuses. Today was the first time my TSH was in the normal range at 4.5. I don’t have any lasting effects from the cancer it’s self, just the treatments for it. Do you need meds for a partial removal?

And that is a good thing to be to such a place.

Gotcha.

Yeah I take a levothyroxine, 112 MG daily. They also want me to supplement with calcium.

Good to here TSH is normal.

I had to look it up. It sounds like a tough workout.

I have never done a sandbag carry but it makes me think of the carries that you do. I like that challenge and it is a good way to mix it up between near max loads and volume.

Not to mention that sandbag carries make one strong hell when done regularly.

Should we start referring to you as Norm?

I would be fine with that, I just hope I look more like Sam than Norm.

Got busy and last weeks deload turned into a no load
Squat 460 TM
Wu
300 x 5
345 x 5
390 x 2 (fail)
Forgot my squat shoes and knee sleeves. That is not the reason for failure. Not sure what to do now.

You have made amazing progress! No need to be so down on yourself for missing lift. You just came off a deload, so it’s no big deal. You know this game isn’t linear. You can’t get every rep every time.
You got this!

Clicked on this topic and read the first post. Saw you were lamenting your 135 lb squat. Then scrolled down to see you squatting 390.

You’re kicking ass man.

Son has been home recently processing deer meat. I didn’t know brats could be so good. The neighbor took a steer to the locker for me last week. Steaks are going back on the menu.
