Police Ticket Quota

People spend a great deal of time discussing how the ‘state’ does a poor job of things. For the average citizen encounters with LEOs will comprise the majority of interactions with a ‘state’ representative. In these situations the LEO is the ‘state’ and additionally is representing the LAW. There is no place where the moral high ground is more important.

When our leaders reduce the duties of these men & women to revenue generation, they are done a dis-service. When everyone knows this is the case, respect for the law, and those charged with enforcing it, corrodes. When the moral decline of the nation is brought up, issues like this are ground zero! When leadership and authority abandon the moral high ground for convenience and profit the law no longer serves it’s purpose.
Yep

I’m convinced morons that say this shit are ignorant.
There is a difference between supporting the boys in blue and swinging from the long testicles of the law.

Yep.

Bdocks response is as lame as they come. Painfully lame.
Thank you.

Dude, I followed the forum for a long time before finally getting an account …

You’ve really developed quite the Chip

Disappointing at first … Now getting tiresome

LOl at “chip” now being the word for mentioning an issue that is clear and present.

If cops are pulling people over just to increase numbers, who do you think they will be utilizing this on the most? I apologize that this tires you out so.

Maybe some caffeine?

Viagra?

Doubtful. But you’d rather just assume that’s going to happen and not defend your own legal rights here?

Considering most of the cops in my town are black (15 out of 17), as well as the police chief, my guess is white people??

Gee, I would say recent events over the last ten years make it more likely that I could get beat for daring to ask that question than that I can get away with asking and not get met with added resistance and attitude from the cop…but then, you may be a tad lighter than me so no worries.

Which part of “to serve and protect” does a traffic ticket quota fall under? Former police officer Justin Hanners says it best at 3:00: “It’s not about what I need, it’s what he needs. And he doesn’t need to go to jail.”

Looks like to me the elected officials use the quota system to increase revenue streams for the municipalities they work for.
A “red light” ticket here (where you basically push a yellow light and cross an intersection as it turns red) is $600, and that is for a 1st time offense.

My buddy who was a cop told me, there is not an open quota system, but cops who give out more tickets get promotions and raises more quickly.

And yes this is nothing but a money grab.

I remember back on Oct 31, 1996, yes on fucking Halloween, I got a ticket for changing lanes while crossing over train tracks. I didn’t even know this was a traffic violation. Problem is, those tracks had not been in use for over 20 years.

You live in Mississippi. It may be the last place in this great country where we can balance the scales.

Say “wuzzup” to my brothers when they pull you over today. Notice I said “wuzzup” and not “what’s up”. Ebonics tutorial on the house, bro.

Arrested or beaten? Really? For asking a question during a traffic stop that is being video recorded?

That’s right, all cops are brutal thugs just looking for an excuse to beat and/or arrest people … And it goes without saying they are racists (even the black ones - damn Uncle Tom’s)

No … No chip on your shoulder X

What was I thinking …

Yes, I was threatened with time in the clinker because I questioned whether his equipment was accurately calibrated.

Clearly you must have imagined this…because I just have a chip on my shoulder…

Haha You know I was just busting your balls a little man right? Actually had one of them bring me a box of donuts today (serious). I work with his wife and he stopped by to pay his respects about my grandfather.

Arrested or beaten? Maybe if I’m in a good mood. I usually shoot people in the face for asking me roadside questions. Especially if they’re black. Oh wait, I only pull over black people.

Hey, I got threatened with arrest for asking why a cop was pulling me over at 2am (did not get a ticket either because he pulled me over for no reason…but DWB). But they won’t try it if I go as far as to request all of the crap that the other poster wrote?

Seriously, to the people who think that would turn out great…have you ever been pulled over by a cop before…in a real city?

LOL. I have been threatened with arrest for no reason for just asking a question…nothing as deep as asking for the reading. I would say anyone who doesn’t expect attitude from the cop if they ask for all of that is very naive.

Oh, I didn’t mean to imply that the cop would be anywhere near cordial if you questioned them and their equipment. It becomes a very tense situation very quickly.

Fortunately these days, there are cameras, sometimes recordings (and it’s not too hard to record things on a smartphone, even if it’s not admissible), and plenty of lawyers willing to work to prove impropriety if that’s what actually happened. And then, of course, the appeal system and so on and so forth.

Mostly though, it all depends on how far you want to take things, and/or how well you’re able to bluff about that. If they weren’t acting legally, they generally don’t want it to get to the courtroom, and will act accordingly.
