Playstation 4 Announced

Just saw the gameplay trailer. Looks sick as ever!

Maybe so, and I’m happy for that, I like there to be a choice between where I can put my time and not be restrained by having it only available in one place, probably predominantly why I bought a PS3 instead of an Xbox 360, and I owned all the previous Sony models, so you know, continuity.

I’ve had a taste of the gameplay from MG Rising, for a spin-off title that has itself devoted to action and incredibly cool fight scenes, it still retains a lot of it’s Stealth elements, which was surprising to me but welcomed.

Especially later on in the game if you can’t perform a stealth kill on some of the patrolling enemies and they rush you in combat simultaneously, you will have a bad time. I appreciate the return of the infamous cardboard box. And some of the novelty costumes, there’s one Mexican-themed one with a sombrero and a poncho, if you wear it and use the box the sombrero stays balanced on top of the box, it’s amusing and I love Kojima for keeping those kinds of things in there.

Ground Zeroes is what I’m waiting for, main selling point is it being the first Open World Metal Gear title, it’s safe to say my britches have been shit.

Oops, got the titles mixed up. Haha, I meant Ground Zeroes. Rising with Raiden doesn’t reallty catch my attention.

Ah my apologies, I never realised, I suppose I should post about individual titles there in future.

No Killzone gameplay as of yet, just theatrics. However, it does look really, really good. Some people are saying the textures and over all design look like PS3 but with a little added polish and shine. But to me, looking at the character models, it looks like character design has come a long way from what it used to be, even in the last Killzone title. The skin and sweat reflection looks really good on the open faced soldiers and the movement mechanics are fluid and impressive. Here’s a video that shows it well for reference.

I’m a huge fan of the Killzone games. Damn, I was gonna get the new Xbox, but now I donno.
I think that’s my main calling to a PlayStation as opposed to an Xbox, for whatever reason I tend to prefer the exclusives more. Uncharted, Killzone and to a great extent the Metal Gear series. I’m a devout fan of the Metal Gear games, I love stealth games.

I get that there’s not much of an appeal because of how difficult they can get sometimes, because the timing has to be impeccable and strategy plays a huge role, especially if it’s played on an appreciable difficulty level, action-centric games tend to take much more of a forefront because of the simplicity and don’t play so much on patience.

Had Metal Gear Solid and the like been readily available on the Xbox, I might have branched out to see all the fuss, but my budget is limited and I can’t bear to miss out on the franchise.
Agree, PS exclusives are much beter imo. I’ve never been big on Halo for instances. Now Nintendo on the other hand. They have some great exclusives. I kind of hope the WiiU bombs and Nintendo becomes a third party developer for both Xbox and Playstation.
This.

I have nothing against Xbox or microsoft, (other than the fact that i had 3 xbox’s break on me) but the bottom line is there was literally 1 Xbox exclusive that i missed after i stopped getting new ones. And that was Fable 2.

Every single other game for Xbox 360 that i had a desire to play was also available for PS3 or PC. However i loved PS3 exclusives.

MGS4, The Uncharted Series (especially 2 and 3) Killzone 2 and 3, Demon’s Souls, God of War III, Gran Turismo 5, the Resistance series, and soon the Last of Us…these are some of the greatest games/series of all time, and all were exclusive. Most will still be.

Didnt hurt that it came with built in wifi, built in blu ray player and free online.

Looking forward to The Last Of Us, I like post-apocalyptic style games with sparse resources and constantly changing power-play. I Am Alive was fun while it lasted, but I hope The Last Of Us can expand more on the idea and bring a new fresh perspective to the situation.

Yeah, now that Crysis 3 has released, The Last of Us is likely going to be the last big game (and certainly last PS3 exclusive) i really look forward to.

But im OK with that, because just beyond the horizon i now have PS4 to look forward to.

I really have a strong feeling that the PS4 will deliver in a big way, especially if the mid 400’s to mid 500’s price points are validated. Unless Xbox has something truly groundbreaking to reveal, PS4 should be number one for this generation. Wii U certainly isnt gonna hurt it too much.

I was once big on consoles, but after the buzz kill I got from PS2 and PS3 as well as all the XBOX faults (pricing on all three and hardware issues the PS2 and XBOX) it’s swayed me back to PC gaming.

I’m betting this is going to retail for a stupid amount here in Australia … games are probably going to range from $80 - $130 again for a few months.

So you really only liked consoles back in the PSX, N64 days?

Why is it gonna be so expensive in a land down unda?
Derek542 wrote:

This.

I will hold final judgement until after E3, but I was not impressed with what I saw as far as games. I’m only really interested in the new inFamous game right now, even then, without Cole and Zeke who knows if it will have the same charm as the 1st 2 games.

It usually takes a year+ for the really good stuff to come out after a console launches anyway.

Add in current generation hardware failure rates for first run units and I have a hard time wanting in on this right away.

I don’t see myself getting one, unless The Phantom Pain aka Metal Gear Solid 5 is an exclusive launch title, then all bets are off.

I am still excited though and will be following along closely. As long as Sony keeps online play free (with the optional PS+ service) and stays away from blocking used games, count me in at some point.

I love everything about that article. I’d be so glad if Kojima did intensify the themes behind the main story, even to the point where it would make some people uncomfortable. For what the game is and the history of it’s franchise, it deserves to have it’s message loud and clear at the forefront.

Emotional attachment to the characters is part of the reason I get so invested in the games. Jack’s back story was great, I’d love to see more of a development between Big Boss and Zero, the hate they foster for each other leading up to Les Enfants Terribles is one of the most under-developed but over-stated aspects of the Metal Gear universe as a whole.

It looks like Kojima’s planning to do that here, and take Big Boss farther than he ever has before, I welcome him not selling out and keeping true to the dark and violent history the games set themselves in.

Now, for all purposes I am a big PC gamer, anything a console can do a PC would shit on its parade all day but what I do not like hearing/seeing is people in the industry or hardcore fanboys screaming about how “amazing” these next Gen consoles will be.

I listened to the radio the other night with the presenter going on about the PS4. “the games wil be AAAMAAAZING!, they’ll be much bigger with huge budgets and better quality gaming”.

Then I see on websites the same thing. Hype around that vigilante game included.

Why are people falling for this a third time round?

People are saying titles such as COD will be so much more awesome, Bf4 as well but they fail to see the true picture here. Games will not get better on consoles, they’ll just get prettier.

Now you may be extremely biased for consoles and say I talk a lot of crap but if you step back in time to when consoles were the Ps1 and N64, the likes of Golden Eye and Perfect Dark were in territory that many new games dont even touch on.

When I first played a game designed solely for the PC I was amazed by the freedom and detail put in. I never went back to consoles after this.

Now I hear the PS4 architecture is going to be based around the PC because it is easier to code for. WHAT?

I am pretty sure whatever game, be it Halo, Gears of War or another successful title, the numbers that would consistently play the game online with a PC would dwarf that of the console over time.

Played Bf3 on the PC after the console version? Huge difference.

Games will not get better on consoles, they will stay the same. As long as EA is around, the console market will be the same old, same old.

The only hope in gaming should come from Steambox. That console will actually circumvent EA entirely with Steam. All the advantages of the PC and console, none of its downfalls.

The Cell processor was almost impossible to code for. That’s why PS2 games don’t work on PS3 and PS3 games won’t work on PS4.

Of course PCs are better, but who would be willing to pay 1200 dollars for a console? Cheap hardware which you then optimize the shit out of is the solution.

The GPU should be equivalent to a 6970 or so which is still a good card capable of good graphics in 1920x1080. That’s enough for a few years.

Just look at how laughably weak the PS3 and 360 are and how “good” games still look on them.

The best part is PC games ported from consoles will look a lot better. And eventually be able to use more cores than today. And it will be a lot easier to release multi-platform titles.

8 gigs of DDR5 is no joke either.

I love sitting on my couch, playing my PS3, on my 50 plasma.

I dont like sitting at a computer desk chair, looking at a small screen (relative to 50 in plasma) and try to play games.

Some people like Steak and some like Hamburgers, why do you feel the need to make this point in this thread?

Last time I had a console, it was a Gamecube. Super Smash Bros. was the shit. Also, Metroid. Since then, Ive been a PC gamer. Its hard to argue against PC when it comes to graphics, mods, and just gaming period. But like Derek said, relaxing on the couch with a group of guys and playing COD or Madden is just fun as hell. And that is why Ill probably get a console once the newer systems are out on market for awhile.

All of this.

Say the rumored price points of 429.99 and 529.99 are true. I have a console capable of displaying things that a PC which costs MINIMUM 2 or 3 times that cost can. I have a console that is far more accessible, that can be the center piece of my home entertainment center with surround sound and a 60" plasma and all that jazz, with absolute ease. Not to mention that unless you build your PC from the ground up specifically for gaming (which most people wont) it can cost you easily upwards of 2 grand for a comparable gaming experience.

Im a PC gamer too, but people who dont think the next gen is going to be awesome are weird PC fan boys who for whatever reason, think console gaming sucks no matter what they do.

Consoles have more games, better games, and more usefullness in a home entertainment setting. And no, the numbers of people playing these games on PC’s could never have come close to what happens with consoles because Accessibility is what its all about, and while the PC literate such as you or i may have no issues with using a PC as a gaming or entertainment device, hundreds of millions of other people do.

And no one is being “fooled” for the third time around. No ones being fooled because the PS2 truly did elevate things far beyond the PS1, and the PS3 truly did elevate games beyond the PS2, and it will likely be the same story for the PS4.

If you have such a problem with it, you can always stick to PC games. Unfortunately you’ll miss out on dozens if not hundreds of great console exclusives in the process.

Can anyone explain to me in simple terms why they can’t get a keyboard+mouse to work on a console. I threw in the towel about five years ago on PC games, couldn’t afford a new card every year.

It’s frustrating because I was a way better gamer in kill games with a mouse and keyboard. Now I’m an auto aim button masher on PS3. Age don’t help, I remember being blown away by pong lol.

I can build a decent PC (from internet suggestions) better than a PS4. Along with it you have the pride that you were able to put it together yourself. With my laptop plugged in with a HD cable I do school work and watch Netflix on my 36" TV while I sit on my couch. How can you possibly not do the same with a PC on a TV with what a PS4 can do? Oh but wait I can play iTunes radio on my TV while I do things around my place. Yeah, I’m telling the truth, amaaazzzing right?

I am a proud 1st gen PS3 (the fat one) owner and have played the hell out of it. Yes, I’ll miss the games exclusive to PS4 but there is plenty of great games on the PC and games I yet have to play on PS3 that I can occupy my time with.

I’m not overly hyped about the PS4 and probably will not be an owner of one.

I see the same argument again AND again, it gets boring.

“PCs are waaay to overpriced and you need to upgrade them -FACT!”

Wrong on so many levels I dont know where to begin.

Go on any tech forum, you’ll see threads dedicated to building cheap PCs that can play COD, Bf3, Skyrim and any other top dollar game.

GPU processors are way ahead of what they used to be but the majority of their power is used for flashy effects. Notice how Bf3 uses these effects? Now if they turned that shit of, which some skilled modders have done, the game is actually better and the processor/GPU power usage goes down a heck of a lot.

Flashy effects and processor intensive games are what drives the PC price up.

Strategy games are notorious for this and so are the likes of Grand Theft Auto. When you have games that have high demands placed on the three main PC components, (GPU, processor, RAM) your price will go up.

You need a Mobo that fits them, a case that fits the mobo and lets not forget the fancy assed SSD drives, which YOU DO NOT NEED.

Another popular myth is that you need a top of the line GPU for games at high frame rates.

DayZ is the only game that will push the biggest PCs out there, but that is because its game code is piss poor.

The GPU market is geared towards the low-mid range users, not the top of the range line. They dont sell near enough units to bring their profits into line for that to work.

Say the rumored price points of 429.99 and 529.99 are true. I have a console capable of displaying things that a PC which costs MINIMUM 2 or 3 times that cost can.
No just no. There are plenty of do it yourself PC ideas on the internet for that price or just a TAD ($50-$100) above. You get a hell of a lot more out if a PC (productivity wise) than a PS4.

If Playstation gives you the opportunity to surf the web, send emails, and download 3rd party software, what has it just become then?
