Persistent Guy's Training Log Continues

Front squat bodyweight (91 kg) 50 times in 4 minutes: fail, only got 43
3x12: db floor press 46 kg
2x20: military press 53 kg

I think I’m gonna do something I’ve never done before, and try to cut fat. I’ve gone down in weight from around 93 kg to 91 over the past month anyway, just training more often and being less disciplined about constantly stuffing myself with food. A few more kilos and I think I’ll be as lean as before I started lifting, when I was 30 years old and weighed 62 kilos.

5x3: deadlift 189 kg
1x4, 5x3: pullup 24 kg
3x8: cheat curl 49 kg

Still cheating on those curls, but I don’t need to do it as much as I used to. Basically, I don’t want to use less weight because then I’d have to take the last big plates off the bar for curls, and I want them on there for all the other lifts, so that gets annoying.

3x10: Zercher squat 101 kg
3x8: military press 71 kg
2x20: db floor press 32 kg

3x4: pause deadlift 169 kg
3x10: bentover row 71 kg

No pullups today for the stupid reason that my left pinky - my left pinky - has been getting more painful over the past couple of weeks, and lifts using the bar are OK but doing pullups hanging off the edge of a stair with my fingers flat seem to aggravate it. Worst excuse ever, eh?

Front squat 71 kg 50 times in 4 miutes: success, got 51
3x12: db floor press 46 kg
1x20, 1x19: military press 53 kg

Didn’t lock out the last rep on the press so not gonna count it, but the front squats went well. I basically did a triple every 15 seconds at a steady pace, then for the last one I did three extra reps. Tiring, but doable. I’ll have to work my way up to doing them at that pace with 20 more kilos, though.

5x3: deadlift 189 kg
2x4, 4x3: pullup 24 kg
3x8: cheat curl 49 kg

6x5: Zercher squat 109 kg

Since I’ve gone for a high-volume, low-weight challenge with front squats, figured I should do Zerchers a bit heavier to compensate. These were quite doable, I think I can add 1 kg per side per week for a bit until they aren’t. No upper body stuff because of too much other crap to do this evening.

3x6: pause deadlift 149 kg
3x4, 3x3: pullup 24 kg
3x10: bentover row 71 kg

Could try adding weight or reps to the paused deads but I’d probably end up either pausing a little higher or a little shorter to make it easier, so I’m gonna stick to this and focus on making every rep honest and good quality. Last set of deads took 35 seconds, so almost 6 seconds per rep - so the pauses are probably just a bit under 3 seconds, but definitely over 2.

Front squat 75 kg 50 times in 4 minutes: success, got 51
3x12: db floor press 46 kg
2x20: military press 53 kg

1x10: deadlift 189 kg
3x12: pullup
3x8: cheat curl 49 kg

6x5: Zercher squat 109 kg
3x8: military press 71 kg
2x20: db floor press 32 kg

Probably gonna swap the two-arm floor presses for something else - getting the weights into position and then putting them down is stupidly awkward.

3x5: pause deadlift 159 kg
3x4, 3x3: pullup 24 kg
3x10: bentover row 71 kg

front squat 79 kg 50 times in 4 minutes: success, got exactly 50
3x12: db floor press 46 kg
2x20: military press 53 kg

I’ve been eating fairly clean, but today I cut up a small potato and fried it in lefover wild boar bacon grease. Maybe not the most unhealthy or indulgent food, but looks as dirty as it sounds!

5x3: deadlift 189 kg
3x12: pullup
3x10: cheat curl 49 kg

6x5: Zercher squat 109 kg
3x8: military press 71 kg

3x4: pause deadlift 169 kg
4x4, 2x3: pullup 24 kg
3x10: bentover row 71 kg

front squat 91 kg 50 times in 5 minutes: fail miserably, run out of gas at 45 with 30 seconds to go
3x12: db floor press 46 kg
2x20: military press 53 kg

5x3: deadlift 189 kg
3x12: pullup
3x8: cheat curl 49 kg

6x5: Zercher squat 109 kg
3x8: military press 71 kg

Then some awkward attempts at figuring out how to use my sawhorses for dips, to replace the light floor presses, but that didn’t get too far as the damn things have uneven legs and one of them’s pretty wobbly. Still, might be able to figure something out.

3x6: pause deadlift 149 kg
4x4, 2x3: pullup 24 kg
3x10: bentover row 71 kg
