Is this exercise performed with straight as possible with the arms, bar behind you with a shrugging motion? OR, instead of shrugging, you pull the bar up high as possible with the bar behind you? Thanks!
I usually shrug, hold at peak contraction point, then pull the bar up until my arms are pretty close to parallel with the floor
If you keep the arms perfectly straight, you get a nice trap contraction. Add a little ‘pull’ (almost an upright row), and your rear delts will get a little toasty as well.
