From the UK Times Online
Obese and overweight adults in England could be paid to lose weight under plans being considered by the Government. The new strategy to tackle poor eating habits and sedentary lifestyles includes the suggestion that people should receive financial rewards or shopping vouchers for achieving and maintaining a healthy weight.
When I read this article I was reminded of an episode of The Simpsons. The family is in the living room discussing ways to cut back on expenses.
Bart: I'm going to take up smoking. Then I'm going to quit to save us money.
Homer: Good for you, Bart, quitting smoking is very hard. Here's $20.
I was also struck by this gem of a quote:
Mr Johnson said: ??The core of the problem is simple ?? we eat too much and we do too little exercise. The solution is more complex.??
I did not realize that eating less and exercising more was a complex issue. I guess I'm smarter than I give myself credit for.
